Publisher's Summary

Shortlisted for the Epic Novel award in the Romantic Novelists Association Books Awards.

Spanning four generations, The Midnight Rose by Lucinda Riley sweeps from the glittering palaces of the great maharajas of India to the majestic stately homes of England, following the extraordinary life of a girl, Anahita Chavan, from 1911 to the present day....

A lifelong passion. An endless search.

In the heyday of the British Raj, 11-year-old Anahita, from a noble but impoverished family, forms a lifelong friendship with the headstrong Princess Indira, the privileged daughter of rich Indian royalty. Becoming the princess's official companion, Anahita accompanies her friend to England just before the outbreak of the Great War. There, she meets the young Donald Astbury - reluctant heir to the magnificent, remote Astbury Estate - and his scheming mother.

Eighty years later, Rebecca Bradley, a young American film star, has the world at her feet. But when her turbulent relationship with her equally famous boyfriend takes an unexpected turn, she's relieved that her latest role, playing a 1920s debutante, will take her away from the glare of publicity to the wilds of Dartmoor in England. Shortly after filming begins at the now-crumbling Astbury Hall, Ari Malik, Anahita's great-grandson, arrives unexpectedly, on a quest for his family's past. What he and Rebecca discover begins to unravel the dark secrets that haunt the Astbury dynasty....

Beautifully Written

Another beautifully written story by Lucinda. Loved the colouful connection to India. The way the story flowed with the connection between the years was done so well. Loved the characters didn't want this one to end. Enjoyed the narrator.

Irresistible suspense!

The story of Annahita and Rachel is compelling, there was not one boring moment; I recommend it to all those who enjoy an unconventional story that spans two very different eras. I also liked that there was no unnecessarily vulgar language etc. ENJOYED IMMENSELY!

I cannot recommend more

I absolutely loved this story from the first paragraph. The way the historical angle was woven into the modern day. I couldn’t “put it down” - so to speak!

Absolutely Lucinda

I’ve read the sister series recently, and this book is so much that style. It’s packed full of wonderful graphics and history as well as love, passion and tragedy. The narrator is perfect. I’ve been transported to another time and place and so enjoyed the journey.

Another jewel from Lucina Riley

I enjoyed Seven Sisters so much that I started looking for more books by this author. I expected that earlier work would have less quality, but was I pleasantly surprised! This book was even better! I could not put it down. I am tempted to read it again, but I am off to get another book by this author.

One of the best story’s I’ve read (listened to) in many years

This whole story was so captivating. The development of the characters was beautiful. I cried so many times throughout I was so taken by the story.

I love all of Lucinda Riley’s work but this is my favourite.

Highly recommend!
