About this listen

Meet Ed Kennedy - cab driving prodigy, pathetic card player, and useless at sex. He lives in the suburbs; he shares coffee with his dog, the Doorman; and he's in nervous love with Audrey. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence - until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery.

That's when the first Ace turns up.That's when Ed becomes The Messenger. Chosen to care, he makes his way through town, helping and hurting (where necessary) until only one question remains: Who's behind Ed's mission?

I got this book as a hard copy for my birthday a few years ago. and I was so engrossed I read the entire thing in a day. This book is unlike any other I've read and to this day I'm yet to enjoy a book as much as I have this one. each time I read it i find something new to appreciate and I cry every time it's over. if you're on the fence this is a must have for any young adult

What a joy to read such a beautifully sculpted story based on a wonderful idea and including such accurate understanding of the characters involved. Humour, intrigue and passion, all in one, and a fabulous way with words.

A masterpiece

Bold and vivid storytelling with a distinctly Australian voice, as the local deadbeat is forced by a series of challenging Ace playing cards, from a mysterious source, to carry out various tasks. These tasks open his world and force him to change and realise the amazing potential within him - and make him want to reach for it.

The reader was excellent with his dry Australian voice, giving perfect emphasis and character to the story that heightened the tension of the drama.

Slow Start. Curious Middle. Great Ending.
