Publisher's Summary

Meet Ed Kennedy - cab driving prodigy, pathetic card player, and useless at sex. He lives in the suburbs; he shares coffee with his dog, the Doorman; and he's in nervous love with Audrey. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence - until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery.

That's when the first Ace turns up.That's when Ed becomes The Messenger. Chosen to care, he makes his way through town, helping and hurting (where necessary) until only one question remains: Who's behind Ed's mission?

Slow Start. Curious Middle. Great Ending.

Bold and vivid storytelling with a distinctly Australian voice, as the local deadbeat is forced by a series of challenging Ace playing cards, from a mysterious source, to carry out various tasks. These tasks open his world and force him to change and realise the amazing potential within him - and make him want to reach for it.

The reader was excellent with his dry Australian voice, giving perfect emphasis and character to the story that heightened the tension of the drama.

beautiful

I got this book as a hard copy for my birthday a few years ago. and I was so engrossed I read the entire thing in a day. This book is unlike any other I've read and to this day I'm yet to enjoy a book as much as I have this one. each time I read it i find something new to appreciate and I cry every time it's over. if you're on the fence this is a must have for any young adult

Believable Young Vouce

Loved the guile-less voice of a young man simply helping people as he lives his life. Zuzak's dry wit is perfect.

Different but entertaining

I enjoyed it. It’s light and easy with a lovely ‘message’ at the end. It kept me entertained.

Beautiful

The story is amazing, perfectly written with all the Aussie culture and values present, letting me relate more to the characters.
The guy reading it is great but some sentences are cut out and brands are changed from the original book, ie he says ‘the insurance company’ instead of saying ‘NRMA’
Not a big difference but still kinda weird when I’m reading along with the actual book.
