About this listen
Finding love is painful when you're crippled by the past. Savannah Westmoreland has come to the town of Paradise Valley to start afresh. But when her mysterious new pastor and the town's most powerful businessman both begin to compete for her affection, Savannah realizes she will have to face her past once and for all or leave Paradise forever. But there's more to the story - and more danger lurking - than Savannah knows.
©2019 Canon Press (P)2019 Canon PressThis book was so encouraging in many different ways. It's amazing to me that a pastor and theologian would not only write a romance novel, but write a really good romance novel. It's testament to Doug Wilson's brilliant giftedness as a writer. I was really impressed by this book. For a guy, Doug really understands the female of the species quite well. I smiled many times throughout at all the emotional tension and internal dialogues. My favourite line was, "She was now flirting, and she knew it, but so was he, and it was all quite impossible, and she was furiously unhappy with her very happy self".
It's also a great example of a Christian leader actually making culture, rather than just talking about it. Many Christians and conservatives are good at complaining, but few can actually create something like this. I think in that sense Doug Wilson is quite unique as a writer today.
The only bit of the story I thought was a bit far fetched was the plot twist reveal at the end of the story. Of course, anything is possible in God's sovereignty, and it was very sweet, but it seemed a bit of a fairy tale to me. Other than that, perfect. This was a delight to listen to from beginning to end. It was captivating and refreshing and funny. I really highly recommend it.
