Everything old is new again in love and murder.

Thoroughly satisfying police procedural / romance!
Oh, the times, they are a’changing for police / partners Royce Locke and Sawyer Key. Sawyer found a hidden engagement ring and he’s chafing for Royce to ask him to marry. The Police Chief feels Royce is burnt out and has asked him to head up a youth task force. Meanwhile, the Chief has promoted Sawyer to SGT and asked him to lead a cold case unit. The unit’s first case is a series of Magnolia Beauty Pageant murders that occurred over three decades but stopped 10 years ago. The best laid plans are scuppered when another contestant is murdered and the Chief assigns Royce to the fresh case.
This book is the start of the second Sawyer & Royce trilogy, Matrimony & Mayhem, which follows on from the Zero Hour series, which I really enjoyed. There were a very satisfying bunch of plot lines in this police procedural / established-couple romance with a great balance between Locke and Key’s personal and professional lives. The murder case was riveting with plenty of suspects and angry parents, and the pacing was excellent. Can’t wait to read the rest of this series! 🎧 Voice actor Tristan James is at his best narrating police procedurals and his deep, gravelly voice channels Locke & Key well.
