Story
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Katherine Nichols knew she’d had too many drinks, but they were only going a short distance. “There’s no traffic anyway,” Eve had pointed out. And they'd had such a great night out, the two of them. Even now, driving them home and knowing she shouldn’t, seemed almost mischievous. All part of the fun. Not anymore.

Publisher's Summary
Grabs you immediately and keeps you guessing right up until the surprise ending!
She thought they had the perfect marriage....
Tamra never dreamed she would marry someone like Mike Mitchell: handsome, rich, a wonderful husband...until she finds out that Mike is having an affair. But Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and Mike Mitchell should have remembered that before he made a fool of her. Because Tamra knows something about Mike. Something he did. Something evil. And she was prepared to carry the secret to her grave.
Not anymore.
To make matters worse, Mike's daughter Madison has come to visit for a few days, and Madison doesn't like Tamra. Well, that's too bad, because Tamra doesn't have time to argue. She's too busy ruining Mike's life while remaining, on the surface at least, the perfect, loyal wife.
But when Tamra's plan spirals out of control, she finds that things are not what they seem.
And now, it's too late.

Main Character was Interesting At First
The Loyal Wife was somewhat of a disappointing psychological thriller overall, but I still think it was worth the listen. The voice of the main character was really interesting. She comes across as a ditzy, trashy, yet- 'don't mess with me' type of woman who's naïve to many things but street smart. I thought the narrator really did well- but the problem was, the cool voice and character didn't match the end of the book.
The ending sort of made the whole plot fall apart, and it was boring and non climactic.
Typical story- wife marries rich husband, husband is cheating, wife tries to find out information, etc. There are a couple twists as in the 'I know what you did last summer' theme.. but the end was just.. not good.
The narrator saved this one for me.

Glad I read Barelli's other books first
If I'd started my Natalie Barelli obsession with this novel, it would have died on the vine. While, very like her other 4 thrillers, the story features deeply-flawed characters and an unreliable narrator, this one turns rapidly ludicrous.
I'm still uncertain of Barelli's provenance, because 4 of the books take place in the US, and one in England, but her website says she "lives in Australia". In any case, this novel is set in North Carolina, yet filled with clumsy Briticisms (candidature, journo, CCTV, to name a few) and read by an English actress using a (very convincing) Midwestern American accent.
I suspect this book languished in a file folder somewhere for years until Barelli's success. It doesn't accurately reflect the 2018 situation in NC, regarding abortion access, journalistic integrity and reach, HIPAA laws, and a host of other things that come across as nonsense. #Forgiven

Wow😱👏🏽💯omfg😁👍🏽
Where do i start?! 1st of all, i have struggled recently to find a book that has gripped me and ive returned so many trying to find a book that I couldn’t stop listening to... and here it was😁👍🏽i want to say that it REALLY annoys me when I read about people being SO horrible about narrators. They are humans and things will hurt that they read directed at them, and some are downright nasty, and no need for whatsoever! They just can’t please everyone! I read reviews about this book and the narrator being💩but she was AMAZING!!!💯💯👏🏽she had me actually imagining what the characters looked like, the settings, everything! All that is down to the narrator and she done a brilliant job! I was aware that the reviews said it blew them away at the end, and how they got it wrong so i was constantly trying to imagine the unlikely things throughout this story, and I thought i had it all right...but i was wrong! Very wrong!🤦🏽♀️😂which i am really really pleased about because that’s what makes a book even better!!😁👍🏽I nearly had this finished in one sitting but unfortunately had to stop at a crucial bit and continue the next day😩🤨😂its a REALLY well thought out book...wow! Writer has an amazing talent for SURE! Huge well done!! I am not going to say anything about the story as that annoys the life out of me when people leave reviews telling u about the story...as if u haven’t already read a description of what the book is about!🤨😂soooo glad i chose this book, very very happy and well worth every second I listened 😊👏🏽give it a try and ignore the bad reviews, its a great story and you WONT figure it out! I would probably bet my house on it🤔... infact make it my kids!😂👋🏽ENJOY!!!! Worth 5 stars 🌟 and more! Thank you audible! Your the BEST app out there!!!💯👏🏽😁
