The residents in Brisbane's Riverview apartment block barely know each other. They have no idea of the loneliness, the lost hopes and dreams, being experienced behind their neighbours' closed doors. Vera, now widowed, is trying her hardest to create a new life for herself in an unfamiliar city environment. Unlucky-in-love Maddie has been hurt too many times by untrustworthy men yet refuses to give up on romance. Ned, a reclusive scientist, has an unusual interest in bees and worm farms. Story
It is the winter of 1985. Hope Farm sticks out of the ragged landscape like a decaying tooth, its weatherboard walls sagging into the undergrowth. Silver's mother, Ishtar, has fallen for the charismatic Miller, and the three of them have moved to the rural hippie commune to make a new start. But here, at just 13, she is thrust into an unrelenting adult world, and the walls begin to come tumbling down, with deadly consequences.

Story
Calabria, Italy, 1936. In a remote farming village nestled in the mountains that descend into the sparkling Ionian Sea, young and spirited Giulia Tallariti longs for something more. While she loves her home and her lively family, she would much rather follow in her nonna’s footsteps and pursue her dream of becoming a healer. But as Mussolini’s focus shifts to the war in Europe, civil unrest looms. Whispers of war are at every corner and her beloved village, once safe from the fascist agenda of the North, is now in very real danger.

Story
Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Tudor Grove, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn't a mother she recognises. She isn't the nanny. She doesn't have Milo. And so begins every parent's worst nightmare. As news of the disappearance filters through the quiet Dublin suburb and an unexpected suspect is named, whispers start to spread about the women most closely connected to the shocking event. Because only one of them may have taken Milo - but they could all be blamed.

Story
The Cows is a powerful novel about three women. In all the noise of modern life, each needs to find her own voice. It's about friendship and being female. It's bold and brilliant. It's searingly perceptive. It's about never following the herd. And everyone is going to be talking about it.

I Don't Think I'm the Target Market for This
- By Cate M on 14-08-2019
Publisher's Summary
This is the story of a love song...and like any good love song, it has two parts.
In Australia, Arie Johnson waits impatiently for classical pianist Diana Clare to return from a world tour, hopeful that after seven years together she'll finally agree to marry him.
On her travels, Diana composes a song for Arie. It's the perfect way to express her love, knowing they'll spend their lives together. Won't they?
Then late one night, her love song is overheard and begins its own journey across the world.
In Scotland, Evie Greenlees is drifting. It's been years since she left Australia with a backpack, a one-way ticket and a dream of becoming a poet. Now she spends her days making coffee and her nights serving beer. And she's not even sure whether the guy she lives with is really her boyfriend or just a flatmate.
Then one day she hears an exquisite love song. One that will connect her to a man with a broken heart....

Absolute Delight
This was my Mother’s Day read and I loved the day.
The Lost Love Song has to be one of the best books I’ve read- and I read all the time
Books set in Australia also appeal
I must admit I’m partial to the Aussie accent and Marcello Fabrizi has a a beautiful baritone voice.
( He sounds Aussie, even if his name is dubious)
The song affected so many people’s lives and spread like a Chinese Whisper around the world.
It was played by all different musical instruments and formats, yet remained true to its origin so that anyone that heard the song remembered the tune.

Quite the delight
Minnie Darke has gifted us something a little different to the usual trope. This pleasant listen/read (er, excepting the tragic opening set) breaks the usual formulaic structures in several ways yets delivers us the relief of tying up "happy endings" (for now) going forward. It's well worth the money spent. Arienwen Parkes-Lockwood and Mario Fabrizi give a good solid performance with nuanced characterisations and silk smooth transitions and while there is the tiniest, tiniest room for improvement (compared to the likes of Tom Hanks or Juliet Stephenson) they still deserve 5 stars and are worth searching for for future purchases. Overall The Lost Love Song is a surprise and a general fiction read that I would actually bother to listen to again. Loved it.

Love, dedication, music, magic
Minnie Darke knows how to write a love story. The thread that weaves its way through this novel, right to the end, is enchanting. Woven through a story of devotion to family and talent and precious individuals and the the frailty of humans. A truly lovely and tragic love story.

Aussie love story
I found it slow to start but I really loved it in the end. The author is very talented in how she pieces things together and puts so much depth into her books. Highly recommend. Thank you.
