About this listen

The Lord of Stariel is dead. Long live the Lord of Stariel. Whoever that is.

Everyone knows who the magical estate will choose for its next ruler. Or do they? Will it be the lord’s eldest son, who he despised? His favourite nephew, with the strongest magical land-sense? His scandalous daughter, who ran away from home years ago to study illusion?

Hetta knows it won’t be her, and she’s glad of it. Returning home for her father’s funeral, all Hetta has to do is survive the family drama and avoid entanglements with irritatingly attractive local men until the Choosing. Then she can leave. But whoever Stariel chooses will have bigger problems than eccentric relatives to deal with.

Winged, beautifully deadly problems.

For the first time in centuries, the fae are returning to the Mortal Realm, and only the Lord of Stariel can keep the estate safe. In theory.

The Lord of Stariel is the first book in the Stariel quartet.

Lovely world building, storyline with unpredictable twists and excitement and a gorgeous relationship unfolding. The delicate smouldering heat between them is very well paced! Both main characters are intelligent and so very likeable. So happy to have found this author and series. Narrator is also gorgeous x

I really enjoyed this story and am hoping the rest of the series is just as good!

Wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did.
Amazingly written, perfect performance, and an addictive storyline. Am binging the whole series, and they're all just as good as each other.

Unexpectedly amazing

Well written light fantasy, with many interesting realistic characters and charming, but not overbearing romantic subplot.
The narration was very good too.
Looking forward to a next book.

This book was a nice surprise.

This is one of my favorite book series! I've read it before but being able to listen to it on audio book was great while I'm home with my new baby - sometimes I don't like audio books because the narrator annoys me but in this instance the narrator was excellent. A fun story set in a fantasy/steampunk world with interesting characters and (most importantly) a satisfying ending. This series gets even better as it continues - book three is my favorite and I'm looking forward to number four!

Love it!

The narrator did an amazing job of bringing this story and the characters to life. I really loved the main character, she was an absolute delight and carried the story with feisty candour and delicious cheek. I look forward to reading what she gets up to next.

What a wonderfully story

This is a review for the full series up to A Rake of his own TBR. Wonderful unique fae story with the gentle feel of Gaslamp genre. There’s enough action and tension amongst the story to keep you riveted, but it’s overall a story about characters. What really stands out is how well crafted and unique each character’s voice is. The humour is spot on, feeling natural rather the forced. Tiny bit of steam, gorgeous developing romance, PERFECT

Beautiful

absolutely loved it, enjoyably unpredictable, and characters felt logical and consistent. It maintains it's light hearted tone and thankfully avoids many tired tropes. Can't wait to hear the next one.

Plot, performance and pros all excellent!

Absolutely loved this. Fae, magic, fantasy "England", quiet romance. The characters were so real and I loved getting to know them. I loved the dialogue especially and the narrator was so, so good.

What a gem!
