Publisher's Summary

Sometimes, the shortest distance between ruin and restoration and between lies and truth is the long way.

Damon Fitzpatrick’s life is in ruins. Vilified as the pilot responsible for the plane crash that killed Levi and Charlotte Seaver, Damon lost everything - his reputation, his livelihood, his family, and his future. And Damon knows exactly who to blame - none other than powerful Senator Emmett Shaw, the criminal mastermind behind the crash. No matter how long it takes, Damon is determined to get justice and to get his life back.

Cain Shaw is the poster child for success. As the young, rich, handsome son of a picture-perfect family and the face of his father’s conservative political campaign, he has a bright future ahead of him. But the senator has been hiding secrets that threaten to crack that flawless facade - secrets he’s killed to protect.

Cain is determined to make sure no one else gets hurt, even if it means keeping his own long-held secret. When Damon’s quest for justice goes awry, Cain becomes the older man's unlikely savior, and the two are thrown together in a hunt for evidence that will free them both.

But as the road gets longer, the stakes get higher, and the danger that stalks them draws closer, they must find the strength to trust one another...because the one complication they can’t outrun is each other.

An age gap romantic suspense!

Another amazing sequel to the series
This book starts off from where book 1 ended but with new main characters.
It can be loosely read as a standalone though I definitely recommend reading this in the series order since a lot of events which occue in book 1 are mentioned.

Damon and Cain's story was so interesting. I liked the age difference between them. The chemistry they shared was hot and palpable.

The suspense element that ran parallel to the romance was what kept the plot so compelling.

Michael Dean delivers another stunning narration and audio delivery.

Good series

Great suspense in this one. Not the outcome you expect. I felt sorry for Cane and what his selfish parents put him through. But the support of Damen and his friends make it bearable. I was disappointed that we didn’t get more storyline with Canes family once the truth was revealed. I thought it ended abruptly.

The story continues and doesn’t disappoint

This book picks up where book one left off, only with new main characters. This is Cain and Damon’s story. Damon is still desperately trying to clear his name, and while Cain is conflicted, he finds himself wanting to help him. Despite their age difference, and Cain’s unfortunate familiar ties, they find themselves drawn to each other. Can they figure it out while avoiding the imminent danger they find themselves in?

Michael Dean does another fantastic job bringing May Archer’s book to life. He did a great job with the voices he chose for each character.

Damon and Cain

I loved every single minute of this book!! Damon and Cain were so hot together. I laughed, and yelled at the both of them to get their heads out of their asses and was finally happy when they finally got together. I loved the nickname Cain gave Damon. I have loved May's writing since the O'Leary series and with Michael narrating it was just as wonderful. This was so hot and sweet and again I loved it! Can't wait for the next book in this series to see what happens with this family.

Very good listen

Enjoyed this new audio from May Archer and Michael Dean. I liked it when I read the ebook version but I thought it lent itself well to audio! Low angst and a little fluffy, this would be a good jumping in point to someone looking to get started in mm romance.

Enjoyed

I have not listened/read the first book but it was easy to still follow everything going on in the background. I liked both mcs and them together. While I feel a few of their decision while trying to get evidence where dumb it worked out and I’m looking forward to going back to first book and catching the next one.

A good cocktail of lust, love and suspense

I think you’ll love this book if you enjoyed listening to the first book in the series “The Easy Way”. I like May Archer because of her effortless and smooth writing and I especially enjoyed her small town stories because they are low on angst, heartwarming and sweet. However, she has proven that she can write variety of intriguing stories with this new series. I’m loving this thrilling and action-packed “The Way Home” series.

In the blink of an eye, Damon lost everything he holds dear in life. Lost, purposeless and sad, Damon is now determined his rightful place back. And he knows just the man to pester to get his life back. And Cain is being tied up and his wings clipped because of his father’s notorious ambitions. He’s also determined to not let any innocent blood spill again. That’s when the cooperation between Damon and Cain comes in. Two men with very different backgrounds but one same goal. It’s good to be drunk on love.

I wasn’t very convinced about Damon being matched up with Cain in the beginning because Cain’s father is the reason why Damon lost everything. But I am really happy to be proven wrong. May Archer skillet weave the tale of these two enemies who are forced to work together. Lust soon turns to love and turns out to be so much more. Plus, lots of intense heat and thrilling actions. And my, that keep-you-on-the-toes suspense. It was really fascinating and enthralling. And I like that we can learn more of the unsolved mysteries in the previous book unraveling. Simply superb. I cannot wait for next book in the series.

I expected to like this one more

I was a little on the fence with the first book in The Way Home series but the suspense and characters caught my attention enough that I looked forward to seeing where this author took the storyline next. Starting The Long Way, I was hopeful. I liked Damon and Cain as supporting characters in the first book and the little bit of background we got there teased at a great storyline and interesting couple. Unfortunately, it never quite worked for me. Once again, the story felt a bit over-the-top and the narrator only added to that feeling. There is no doubt that this narrator is well-loved and for good reason; his rhythm and enunciation is on point and the production is polished, but it all just felt too much for me this time around and I found myself increasingly less invested in the book as time passed.

Damon and Cain as a couple were cute and well-matched, and despite the insta-connection and love that seems to be a theme with this series, I liked their initial spark. However, much like with the suspense storyline, I lost interest a bit because it felt a bit too easy. All that said, I know I am hard on romantic suspense storylines because it is a favorite trope. I want the angst and intensity, but I need it to feel authentic. I think this book/ series would be better matched with readers who like lower angst between their characters and don't want or need to be on the edge of their seat the entire book.

The Usual May Archer Experience!

Sadly, I couldn’t connect with the main character Damon, don’t get me wrong, the storyline was good, but not as captivating as the first.

Cain’s character was great, believable, but Damon just seemed a miserable version of his foster brother Kendrick.
I just felt his character was just miserable, not because of his life experience, or for being framed - it’s just his character.

The usual characters from book 1 appear frequently and with Cain, carried the storyline through.

Michael Dean is excellent as usual 😁

Still worth 5🌟’s despite Damon’s shortcomings 😊👍

Fantastic

This is the second book in The Way Home Series. You do need to read the first book The Easy Way. This book takes place a few months after the events in the first book. A sensational book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters fantastic. The characters were developed and thought out. Damon and Cain are the MC’s of this book. The narration was good and made listening enjoyable. I can recommend this book as a good read/listen. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Yes, Damon and Cain!!

Another steamy, thrilling and surprisingly sad story. I was intrigued by both Damon and Cain from book 1 and I could feel their spark and connection from the start.

I found Cain's story sad and challenging. it's hard to not be able to be yourself. Add in the political spotlight and Cain's world is hard to live in. I really liked that his connection with Damon encouraged Cain's confidence and implement some life changes.

Damon is always there to support and c were for Cain even though he does think of himself as worthy.

Two damaged souls find soloce, comfort and love in a story with danger, betrayal and some twists and turns you won't see coming. I look forward to more in this series!!

Reclaiming a life worth living

Michael Dean does a wonderful job of bringing May Archer's characters to life and this story is best appreciated if you read/listen to the first book in the series.
This book picks up some time after the events of the first book and brings together Damon Fitzpatrick and Cain Shaw, looking for the truth behind the senseless air crash that virtually destroyed Damon over a year previously. I love how the two come together over a shared enemy/past mistake...an interesting story from start to finish! Highly recommended Contemporary MM romance with some thriller/action thrown in for good measure.

Great continuation of the series

Damon and Cain had sizzling chemistry and burnt up the pages.
This was a sexy and intense story.
It was gritty, complex, suspenseful, and action packed.
I loved seeing the development between these two men as they struggled to define their relationship amid the hunt for a killer.
Michael Dean's absolutely brilliant narration kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Finding one’s strength and courage

This book doesn’t pick up exactly where The Easy Way left off. At the end of that book, it seemed that the villains were revealed, the authorities were involved, and the Seavers and their friends had the ammunition they needed to get justice. It all seemed like a done deal, but apparently that didn’t happen. That made this book/audiobook a little confusing to start, but eventually you find out that Cain refused to testify against his father, so there was no change to the status quo and Damon remained hidden. That is where this book starts. This is an interesting and entertaining story of unlikely alliance, secrets, lies, dysfunctional family dynamics, and passionate love. This book has some unexpected twists and turns. There are always bigger fish, and sometimes we get in deeper than we intended. No spoilers, but sometimes I just wanted to hug Cain for the way his family treated him, especially his mother. This is a wonderful story of finding one’s strength and courage. There is plenty of drama and suspense, and moderate angst.

The narration wasn’t as good as I expect from Mr. Dean. He did a fair job of distinguishing most character voices, but often Cain’s lighter, softer voice morphed into sounding deeper and more like Damon.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from Gay Romance Reviews and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

I really loved The Long Way. It's a great story, full of action fast-paced, lots of sex and a great mystery. I loved Michael Dean's voice and his narration pace. It was really enjoyable to listen to. I would definitely recommend this audio book.
