About this listen
Shane and Ilya's story, first seen in Heated Rivalry, continues in this long-awaited hockey romance from USA TODAY bestselling author Rachel Reid.
To the world they are rivals, but to each other they are everything.
Ten years.
That's how long Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been seeing each other. How long they've been keeping their relationship a secret. From friends, from family...from the league. If Shane wants to stay at the top of his game, what he and Ilya share has to remain secret. He loves Ilya, but what if going public ruins everything?
Ilya is sick of secrets. Shane has gotten so good at hiding his feelings, sometimes Ilya questions if they even exist. The closeness, the intimacy, even the risk that would come with being open about their relationship...Ilya wants it all.
It's time for them to decide what's most important-hockey or love.
It's time to make a call.

I listened to the audiobook again for this one and noticed straight away that the narrator was different. The Long Game is narrated by Cooper North, and to be honest, I did need a little time to adjust to Shane and Ilya’s voices, especially since I had just finished listening to Heated Rivalry narrated by Tor Thom, which I personally really enjoyed despite many not. The change was noticeable at first, but after a few chapters, I found myself completely settled into Cooper North’s narration, and I ended up really enjoying it.
What Rachel Reid does so beautifully here is slow everything down and let the emotions really settle. This is not about the rush anymore, it is about what it means to choose each other in the long run. The vulnerability, the distance, the pressure of fame and expectations… all of it felt raw, honest, and sometimes heartbreaking in the quietest ways.
Watching Ilya soften and open himself up, and seeing how steady and grounding Shane is for him, honestly had my chest aching. Their banter and chemistry are still there, but now they are wrapped in something deeper, trust, devotion, and a love that feels earned. There were moments that made me smile, moments that made me emotional, and moments that stayed with me long after I finished listening.
This did not feel like just a sequel, it felt like a gift. A chance to see Shane and Ilya grow, struggle, and love each other in a way that feels real and lasting. And the best, best news is that there will be a continuation of their epic love story coming at the end of September which honestly makes my heart so happy.
