A moving new novel from the beloved author of Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven

When the Nazis invade Salonika, Greece, eleven-year-old Nico Crispi is offered a chance to save his family. He is instructed to convince his fellow Jewish residents to board trains heading towards the east, where they are promised jobs and safety. He dutifully goes to the station platform every day and reassures the passengers that the journey is safe. Only after it is too late does Nico discover that the people he loved would never return.

In The Little Liar, Nico's story is interweaved with other individuals impacted by the occupation: his brother Sebastian, their schoolmate Fanni and the Nazi officer who radically changed their lives. As the decades pass, the consequences of what they endured come to light.

Exploring honesty, survival, revenge and devotion, The Little Liar is a timeless story about the harm we inflict with our deceits, and the power of love to redeem us.

Critic Reviews

Moving . . . Mitch Albom´s books often capture the zeitgeist, but his new novel about the
fate of Greek Jews during World War II packs a particular punch
A story whose full scope, like a distant image coming into focus through a lens, sharpens with each turn of the page. As with all Albom books, the pages turn quickly. For most, this is a book that will be read in just one or two sittings. But no matter how long it takes, it will stay with you . . . Albom has created art that can be added to the long list of movies, music, theater and books that are humanity's best hope to deliver on the words inscribed on memorials around the world: "Never Forget."
Profound . . . Love, humour and the resilience of the human spirit shine through The Little Liar
Once again, the author has delivered a captivating read that documents themes of revenge and devotion. Definitely one where you'll need a tissue handy

I loved the narrator, his accents were excellent and he set the pace so well. But the real hero was the story. The way Mitch Albom told this story of unimaginable horrors. He was able to reveal the best and worst of human nature. truely beautiful story.

This is such a thoughtful book, beautifully written.

I enjoyed this book, excellently written. The narration was ok, it's always good to have the author read his own story, if you were reading your own book you would not change your voice. I just felt some of the voices were a bit odd.

Kept me interested

Mitch Albom is a truly gifted story teller and presenter. I read ‘Five people you meet in Heaven’ about 10 years ago and watched the tv movie. I can’t tell you how much I loved this one! The Little Liar captured my heart for the characters within the first few chapters and led my imagination on a journey through the tragedy and sorrow of the holocaust that the Greek Jews experienced, clinging to desperate hope and deep faith to survive. I couldn’t wait to find out how it was going to end and it was awesome! Well done Mitch Albom. This would make an incredible series. Maybe as ‘all the light we cannot see’.

Truth be told - Mitch has written an outstanding story about the Holocaust.
