About this listen
On a warm spring evening, guests gather in a perfectly manicured garden to celebrate Maggie and Len’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Maggie leans against the apple tree, watching her fun-loving husband and darling children as her heart swells with pride. As the joyful party atmosphere disappears into the night, close by, the lifeless body of a young woman is pulled from a river.
Slipping upstairs to find the special gift for her adoring husband, Maggie stumbles across something else hidden amongst the dusty boxes of family keepsakes...
A printed pink silky scarf that doesn’t belong to her. She holds it up to her face, breaths in the sweet sickly perfume, it’s scent familiar, and tendrils of fear snake through her body. The scarf is stained with blood.
As Maggie re-joins the party and tries to ignore her churning stomach, she pours herself a glass of champagne to toast the man she’s enjoyed decades of happy marriage with. Then she catches a news flash of the local girl’s murder. She stares at the girl with the beautiful face, long ice-blonde hair and, draped loosely around her neck, Maggie recognises it instantly. She’s wearing the scarf.
An utterly addictive and twisty story about the complex web of secrets within a family that will have you racing through to the mind-blowing end. If you love Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn and Behind Closed Doors, you won’t be able to put this down!

Great narrative enjoyed the performance of the narrator.
The performance of the narrator is great. The book itself is well written with some plot twist but it’s not waterproof , in fact after a few chapters mentioned jealousy from childhood I already figured out who is the killer. Well it’s not a Sherlock novel forgive that .

It's actually a DCI Dan Riley book, Audible!!!
i almost overlooked this book because the marketing does not mention that it's a DCI Riley book. i much prefer detective stories to 'marriage' stories so wouldn't have gone for this cover, but I'm glad i found it as i absolutely love DCI Dan.
i can't believe this series is free from the Plus catalogue -- amazing!!
I have enjoyed the whole series, including this one - though i wouldn't say this is the best. The plot is good--although guessable as there aren't too many options. I would've like a bit more of Dan (and actual policework) as i found self-serving Maggie a bit much to take. But i do think Anna-Lou brings depth and empathy to her characters. Some are a bit lazily written -- like the supposedly bright off-sider, Lucy whose actual observations are a bit dim-witted for a detective. The plot is pretty good, although some elements turn on luck -- but all in all it's an enjoyable read. Love the reader too.

Captivated from the get go!!
It had me Captivated from the moment I started to listen. I found myself driving around the long way to my destination so could hear more of the book as I listened to the story whilst driving. If I listened at home I’d end up stopping and just listening and achieve nothing lol.

Twisty and unexpected plot!
This is my favourite book out of the whole DCI Riley series!! They captured Maggie’s anxieties so well that I was often frustrated with her reactions as they were so relatable. This book really brought about emotional reactions and empathy for what the characters were experiencing. Highly recommend.

Main character annoying but..
.. the narration and story that unfolded was suspenseful and entertaining . Maggie's final act was unforgivable no matter how it was spun.
