Publisher's Summary

The System has taken the Earth, but all is not lost.

With the advantage of the mix-up of starting in the Dungeon, Randidly has been able to found a Village for survivors to gather. With their growing forces, they’ve begun to nurture other outposts of humanity, teaching them the hard-earned lessons he paid for in blood and sweat.

Yet the tests thrown at them by the System are not yet done.

The Village’s tribulation lurks in nearby Turtletown, fleeing a direct confrontation and wearing many faces. Hordes of monsters gather, preparing to strike when they least expect it. Most worryingly, unsavory characters begin to emerge from amongst the survivors, taking advantage of the chaos to benefit themselves.

Amidst this storm, a message comes from Shal. Randidly's teacher needs his assistance to protect the legacy of his family. With the help of Lyra Silver, he hatches a daring plan to finally catch the slippery Tribulation, once and for all.

Because even if it takes him to an alien world and requires him to trust the safety of the Village to other survivors, Randidly Ghosthound always pays his debts.

I LOVE this story except for ONE thing. A big one.

I find myself being driven insane by listening to randidlys skill/stat list being read out. It's gotten to the point I'm thinking about dropping the audiobook and instead reading it so I can easily skip it.

Excellent

One of the best litrpg series I’ve read in a long while. Great characters with actual depth.
The story is interesting and even without the litrpg elements would make for a good series.
Long live the Ghosthound.

loved the first one but

this one fell off a little. I hate when these system/game books try to get all metaphysical. they just start to sound like cultivation novels where nothing really make sense and the characters can just pull bull$hit out of nowhere. this image crap is dumb, really dumb, it's literally using your imagination to somehow conjure constructs with magic powers yet it's not magic training, somehow it's spearmanship. it's going to become like Naruto were they don't fight with skill they just summon a big avatar behind them and the avatar does all the fighting. it's stupid and there's other ways to make the story/training more interesting.

Too many torture and training montages for me

This was a much harder book to get through than the first.

Randidly heads offworld and trains to get stronger.

Large parts of this book felt like one huge, overextended training montage. Additionally, I didn't enjoy what I can only describe as torture scenes, where the MC's mentor breaks every bone in Randidly's body, calls him worthless and beats him down physically and mentally to 'get him stronger.' It was well written and a pretty accurate depiction of victim mentality from Randidly, who was grateful for it all happening, but left me uncomfortable.

The story is decent, but everything got just a little too dark for me, and Randidly isn't heading in the direction I wish his character would be. Unfortunately, I'm dropping the series here.

Only because I'm a completionist

I hate not finishing a story, or leaving it half way through is honestly the only reason I persevered. Really struggled to keep going half way through .. and despite that still want to see what happens in the end - but honestly getting a bit too much like a clunky cartoon manga, want to slap the MC silly, and punch his 'mentor' in the face. Excellent job on the narration though, even the tedious bits. And what happened to Lira .. really?!
