About this listen

I didn’t think hockey was the game for me…now I’m obsessed.

My new neighbor, Ben Stirling, is a beautiful, famous ex-player. A living NHL legend. A single dad with sad eyes and a smile I feel in my knees.

I’ve never met anyone like him. He’s what would you’d get if you squeezed masculinity through a sieve. He’s the grit. The pulp. The hard stuff that leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. On top of that, he’s kind and funny, and did I mention he’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever laid eyes on?

Obviously, he’s straight.

And obviously, that’s fine.

It’s not like I’m going to flirt with him. Or fall for him.

Jeremiah is a new age type of guy, into pottery, yoga and massage. When he strikes up a fun conversation with Luca, the 7yo who has just moved in next door, he has no idea who Luca’s dad is. Ben Stirling is one of the great NHL legends, retired and still in mourning years after the shock death of his wife. It’s an unlikely friendship that’s born out of the goodness each sees in each other and cemented by their affection for Luca. Jeremiah knows it can only be a friendship, but no one seems to have told Ben that!

OMG, I absolutely loved this! All the cute scenes with Luca were gorgeous and the supportive dynamic and sizzling chemistry between Jeremiah and Ben were fantastic. I also loved the journey Ben took from grieving widower to accepting a new partner, it didn’t happen over night, and that felt right. My favourite scene was the exhibition game in the final epilogue—so good—I just want this series to continue forever!! 🎧 Liam DiCosimo (as Jeremiah) and Tim Paige (as Ben) were both brilliant, absolutely perfect for both roles.

Perfect in every way!

I loved Jelly and Ben.Their connection felt natural and the story was deeply moving, but Ben's son Luca stole my heart. His sweetness added to the whole story.Ben's life after the loss of his wife and his career in hockey was portrayed with incredible realism. His emotional struggles felt honest and relatable.
Jelly's character was absolutely lovable, gentle, compassionate and considerate. His growing love for Ben and Luca was touching. The story has some emotional moments about grief and moving on,which was a real gut punch ,but overall it was a really sweet book. Liam and Tim did amazing at the narration.

What an absolute gem!

I'm honestly sad to say goodbye to the beautiful characters within this book. Jesse H Reign has done is again. It's so nice to see an older bi-realisation without the standard tropes around homophobia. I waited ages for the audiobook to be released and it was absolutely worth the wait. Another masterpiece from Jesse H Reign

exquisite!

I liked the realistic way the death of a spouse was dealt with, showing Ben’s ongoing grief.
Jeremiah was a great character and together they were perfect. There was no big deal made of Ben discovering his dual sexuality, it just was. It’s a slow burn but worth it.

Sweet story
