If I could rate this 12/10 I would but be prepared!

It was such an awesome rollercoaster of emotions that I listened to it in 2 days. The writing and narrator were beyond brilliant with all loose ends tied up at the end which I really appreciate! Soo good!

Family saga from a granddaughter

A touching family saga involving 3 generations of how women were blamed and poorly treated as unmarried mothers regardless of the circumstances. Well narrated.

Fantastic story

This was a great read and really was a reflection of the morals of bygone times and the changes in a modern society. An excellent moral dilemma with mystery/crime thrown in making it interesting.

Recommended

Struggled with the narration at times, particularly the Canadian accent... Would still recommend. A lovely story with deep sadness in parts.

Engaging, but...

This was an engaging story, performed well by the reader (although her North American accent has an obvious 'tell' I found distracting). I did find the ending a bit rushed and too pat and implausible. Still worth the listen, but not quite up to the race reviews, in my opinion.

sad and traumatic

I had to keep listening despite its emotional content, there was resolution in its finish. shame the sound levels weren't great at times and I had to have the volume louder than was needed so I didn't miss any of the quieter parts of the story

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

A very interesting and layered plot, well written with believable characters brought to life by the skill of the reader. There was a niggling irritation in the naivety of the main character but nothing that caused me to stop listening.

The excellent narration made a bleak story compelling.

A rather bleak tale, but excellently narrated by Sarah Durham, who charged such emotion into the narrative it was compelling listening. A voice I could listen to for hours. Well done bringing this story to life.

Disappointing!

I was disappointed with this novel. I’ve enjoyed Linda Green’s previous books but this was so depressing and morbid. I really can’t imagine a mother burdening her teenage daughter with so much information. I found the narration dragged me down too. Couldn’t wait to finish it but not in a good way!
