Great Installment To The Series

This entry in Val McDermid’s series about profiler Tony Hill and detective Carol Jordan is less fraught than its two predecessors, but it is just as involving. Carol is working undercover in Berlin, trying to stop an international guns/drugs/refugee smuggler, while Tony is invited to consult on a series of murders of academics, all psychologists who have conducted experiments on human behavior. The two cases run on parallel lines, and each is very intriguing. The relationship between Tony and Carol finally begins to blossom, only to be dealt a severe blow. That is just one reason I’m eagerly anticipating the next book. I know I’ll be treated to a cracking story with rich themes and the underlying thread of the protagonists’ relationship. Saul Reichlin was outstanding with the delivery of the story

Not the best

I'm really trying to get in to this series, indeed I really enjoyed the first two but I find this narrator very hard work. I don't think he suits the feel of the books at all and in this one, I even more so.
I also felt the story line was quite far fetched.
I actually couldn't finish it.

Spoiled by the narration

Val's books are fab. Very dark, so be prepared! I'm mystified why this narrator is STILL employed to narrate such a high profile popular series. He's by far the worst narrator I've ever had the misfortune to listen to in all my audible years! Dreadful accents, emphases in all the wrong places, no emotion whatsoever. I'll stick to the printed versions from now on

what on earth

so disappointed, I love Val McDermid books normally and normally can't wait to finish and then regret when I have as they are so good. what on earth happen here? this has taken me over a month to conclude and now I have I'm glad. it wandered all over the place, couldn't work out if I was listening to a spy novel or a murder story and when it finish it seemed to whimper to a stop. will not listen to this one again.

Bit of an error in the plot - disappointed!

I ploughed my way through gory description after gory description ( hated those excepts, and the swearing) as the plot had me massively engaged, however a big disappointment........ Carol returning to her apartment - are we to believe that she temporarily forgot her 'tail' in her haste to see Tony that she went to his apartment first and spent one and a half hours there? And that Tony stood infront of a window with no blinds or curtains let Carol in and THEY BOTH stood INFRONT of a window at night!!!! Had they temporarily left behind all their professional training and experience, I know they were smitten with each other, but this beggars belief. Sorry but it spoiled the whole book for me.

Great book with good narration

Enjoyed this book more than previous two in the Tony Hill series. Saul Reichman's narration, I felt, was much improved as his attempts at European English accents were much less painful than regional UK accents. This improved my enjoyment of this audiobook. The two storylines that played throughout this novel were slow to start and it took a little while for the book to grip. But when it did I was easily immersed and it was very engaging. A great third novel on this series. I'm looking forward to the fourth,

Thrilling

One of my favourite books in this series. McDermid brings a chilling group of criminals to the heart of this one and Reichlin narrates perfectly again!

Edge of your seat all the way through, hard to stop listening.

Not her best

Too much attempted in one book, would probably have been better as two separate stories.

Not my favourite in the series.

I found this book got bogged down in the detail occasionally.
I'm not sorry I listened to it but I preferred the first two books.
I truly wish they had chosen another narrator for this series. His accents are diabolical and his female voices are laughable.

A best seller.

Suspend your disbelief and settle in for the ride.
Preposterous and reckless but great fun. At times you begin to wonder as all the crime thriller boxes get ticked along the way with an extra one thrown in towards the end where I laughed out loud. For the record, doorbells don't peel, nor telephones and nor do church bells. They ring.
