In the time it takes to answer a phone call, Desmond's life changes.

Suddenly, he's a single parent to his nephew, living in South Carolina, and the assistant coach for the university hockey team. Life might not be great right now, but he's handling it. And things can't possibly get worse, right?

Jack—the survivor of a horrific childhood—knows that things can always get worse. And right now, for him, worse is hockey. He loves the game and loves the friendships he's cultivated with his teammates, but that's where the good ends and the bad begins. Every time his skates touch the ice, he feels worse and worse, eaten alive by anxiety and stress.

Desmond's arrival becomes a bright spot for Jack in the otherwise bleak nightmare hockey has become for him. There is more than the surface-level attraction, though. Soon, their friendship begins to move beyond the sport that brought them together. Before they know it, Desmond and Jack's lives become intertwined in a way that neither could have expected.

As an Aussie, Daniel Lewis did an okay job (no idea if he's actually Aussie but the accent still sounds a little too put on to be real). Liam's Aussie accent was... yikes. Really bad. Really breaks the immersion when they're talking about an attractive accent and its the parody of an Aussie accent, rather than the actual hot Aussie accent.

Story-wise, I enjoyed it, very cute.

Cute Story, but Liam should not do an Aussie accent

The SCU Hockey series was promising with the first two books very interesting. Book 3 was tepid and now book 5 - The Last Buzzer is a train wreck. Sadly it could have been good but the author chose to make the lead characters Desmond and his nephew Parker as unlikeable. The author has a preponderance for asexual characters and therefore leads to less/no/anxious spice. Jack’s character had potential but making him so insipid and characterised as a child by Desmond was not enjoyable.

My goodness Liam should never attempt an Australian accent again.

A very disappointing end to what was a promising series.

Disappointing
