Publisher's Summary

Beauty and glamour meet deception and revenge in this electrifying novel by New York Times best-selling author Amanda Quick.

Investigative apprentice Lyra Brazier, the newest resident of Burning Cove, is unsettled when her boss suddenly goes on a health retreat at an exclusive spa and disappears without another word. Lyra knows something has happened to Raina Kirk, and she is the only one who can track her down. The health spa is known for its luxurious offerings and prestigious clientele, and the wealthy, socialite background Lyra desperately wanted to leave behind is perfect for this undercover job. The agency brings in a partner and bodyguard for her, but she doesn't get the suave, pistol-packing private eye she expected.

Simon Cage is a mild-mannered antiquarian book dealer with a quiet, academic air, and Lyra can't figure out why he was chosen as her partner. But it soon becomes clear when they arrive at the spa and pose as a couple: Simon has a unique gift that allows him to detect secrets, a skill that is crucial in finding Raina.

The unlikely duo falls down a rabbit hole of twisted rumors and missing socialites, discovering that the health spa is a façade for something far darker than they imagined. With a murderer in their midst, Raina isn't the only one in grave danger - Lyra is next.

Female Detectives with Style and Attitude

Amanda Quick is one of my favorite authors. She continues to entertain with her newest installment of the Burning Cove Series. AQ really shows how strong her female characters can be from her heroines to her villains. Whether male or female, her characters are both strong and vulnerable.
Simon Cage is looking for a modern woman who might be considered fast but he's not prepared for Lyra Brazier. Lyra has no plans that include a man until she meets Simon but first they must rescue her boss.
Finding home. Home is different for everyone but when you find your place in this world and the people whom you belong, then you have reached the zenith of life.
This novel is romance, suspense, and spy thriller with a bit of inspiration. As always when I read Amanda Quick's books, I am left with a good feeling.

My fave out of the series to date!

I love how Quick crafted this story. It was like having two novels in one without any loss of quality.

If you like paranormal romantic suspense and/or period romance mysteries then I strongly recommend this book.

Burning Cove Surprise

I now have actors from the time period now populating my imagination Rosalind Russell as Raina, Jean Arthur as Lyra, Jean Harlow as Angela M. They certainly enhanced my reading experience . The authors normally high standards were exponentially enhanced with this story. The only downside is the offering is too late to be made into a golden age movie .

Interesting characters

Excellent reader, didn’t have a hard time with enunciation or noting emotions.
Great story, good character development and would look forward to, maybe not series but an epilogue book.

Unexciting and disappointing

I have read or listened to many Amanda Quick stories. This is the first one that did not grab my attention and I struggled to get through. Most of the characters did not seem to have any passion for what they were doing. Luke did have a bit. The monotone he said/she said in the dialogue simply took away from the conversation. The story also read like having paranormal abilities is an everyday ability and nothing special. Very disappointed.

Great read!

Thoroughly enjoyed this installment of the Burning Cove series more than the previous reads! Enjoyed the others but this one seemed more like classic Krentz! Makes me ant to reread the earlier books.
Terrific book... highly recommend it.

Amanda Quick is one of the best writers !!

" The Lady Has A Past" is one of Amanda's best books. She writes under several names, all of which are terrific! I reread her books all of the time. I have them in audio and in book format. She has a lot of 3 book series! I hope she keeps writing for a long time!

Love it!

This author is one of my favorites, and I LOVE how she ties characters from one book to another....but this one really had some interesting twists, every which way....I loved it from the get go...but, I felt she really didn’t develop the bad guys enough...there was just too many...either way, I practically listened non-stop...I long to step back in time and live in Burning Cove!!!

Another hit!

Love love love! Another wonderful story by Amanda Quick. Long time reader of her stories and I love it. I love that she has us in the 1930's Hollywood and that we hear from everyone in Burning Cove.
Strong female leads, wonderful supporting men who love them, intrigue, paranormal activity and an interesting story line.

Great as Usual, but

No matter what device I used there was more than an occasional dip in sound. The performance was great - it was the audio production. So, although overall it was a 5 star production- there was something wrong with the sound.

Average

Narration was very good, however the story was just average, not bad, just did not hold my attention...

Well-written, excellent narration but same plot.

I am a fan of this writer because what she does, though fairly limited, she does well and this book is no exception. The writing is well-paced, the incidents, adventures and dramas flow well, the romantic relationship develops well but the whole thing is very similar to previous books and there is nothing new or original in this book. That doesn't make it bad, in fact for me it is one of her better books and I like the brief references to, and appearances of, characters from other books and not just from this series. However I do feel it would be good to have something a bit different. Especially in the rather cliched "villains".
The Narrator was excellent, and I will look out for her again.

Good but more of same

The story is good and you can get nicely involved in it but essentially its the same plot as the rest in the series. Honestly how many deranged madmen can be born into one strata of society? Almost every book has an extremely wealthy madman- mostly inherited wealth from important families. I know there is a psychic theme that runs through the stories but psychic is not psychotic and good old fashioned ordinary crime is just as interesting.
The reader is excellent and I will buy more of this series but please find a different angle.
