About this listen

1941, Estonia. As Stalin’s brutal Red Army crushes everything in its path, Katarina battles to protect her grandmother’s precious legacy - the weaving of gossamer lace shawls stitched with intricate patterns that tell the stories passed down through generations.

Meanwhile Lydia is suffocating in her prison of privilege in Moscow. Yearning for freedom and to discover her beloved mother’s Baltic heritage, she escapes to Estonia. Soon these two young women find themselves in a fight for life, liberty and love.

This novel was incredible, inspiring and heart warming. I am blown away by the character development, narrative arch and historical accuracy.

Absolutely inspiring and enriching. Every chapter had me researching on historical incidents. History described in patterns of text and textile.

Wonderful read.

A few memorable
Moments of interest but mostly a long slow boring read that was often difficult to follow due to the many characters with similar names. Lasted till the last 3 hours then gave it away.

Long slow haul!
