Story
The scandal would rip through English society - but how can they resist falling recklessly, irreversibly in love? A series of disasters in Eleanor Lindale’s well-to-do family kept her out of the social whirl where she might have attracted suitors. Now, at age 25, she believes she is irretrievably on the shelf. But her quiet life in Brighton abruptly changes when she’s asked to chaperone her beautiful seventeen-year-old niece, Lady Aurora Crossways, for a brief season before Aurora’s wedding to Philip Radford, Earl of Huntley.

Story
Will two of London's most notorious rogues be outmatched in the game of love by two clever young ladies? When Lady Gillian Carnaby reads of her own betrothal to a hitherto unknown Baron Hopwood in the London Times, she is shocked to learn that the man is real. Worse, Hopwood is merely a minor title for Josiah Hawtrey, Marquess of Thorne, a man with such a scandalous reputation that London society is quite willing to believe he would become affianced to a noblewoman he has never met. To save her reputation, Gillian and the Marquess must go through the motions of a betrothal.

Publisher's Summary
First, she loses her honor; then, she loses her heart. Seventeen-year-old heiress Sarah Lennox-Matthews has one goal in mind when she begins a flirtation with dissolute Darcy Ashton, the Earl of Moreland: to annoy his uncle, the handsome and dashing Sir Nicholas Ashton.
The ruse quickly turns sour when Darcy abducts her, intent on securing her considerable fortune. Fearing the ruin of her reputation, Sarah agrees to marry him forthwith. But soon she confronts a greater challenge to her honor than being forced into a loveless marriage. Darcy’s unbearably attractive uncle arrives at Moreland manor. Although matrimony is the least of Nicholas’s concerns, he seems determined to seduce her, putting her honor at stake again...and perhaps even her heart.

Enjoyable story
On several occasions I was tempted to return this audio, not for the themes or the characters. The Narrator was not engaging and her interpretation was not pleasant.

Nothing exciting
A good clean storyline, but it wasn’t very captivating. I often wanted it to hurry along faster so I could know how it all ended. The narrator had a nice clear voice but I wasn’t a fan of her performance.
There were a good mix of characters none of which were explored to any great depth. I liked Nicholas’s mother the most. She knows not to pluck the crow bald. Classic.

Pleasant enough
A reworking of Georgette Heyer's The Reluctant Widow. Still it was a pleasant enough story though no real surprises!
