The "Hero" cheats on his wife!

Seeeeeriously...*angry eyes*

Oh, did I hate this book. The wife arrives at the keep, which is so filthy, she can't sit down without sitting in gunk. She insists it be keep cleaned. The husband is so childish, that he REFUSES to bathe.

"It's dangerous to wash kilts because the dirt makes them waterproof."

BULL SHIT! I knit shawls with 100% wool! Wool IS waterproof *censors herself from attacking the author* That's why the Scots use wool! That's why Irish wool coats are so popular! Because they're WATERPROOF AND WARM! Dumb bitch. You CAN wash wool. You can't DRY it because it will shrink! And then when the wife refuses his bed because he's disgusting, he cheats on her and goes to another woman!

Seriously. I hate this book so much! I won't be reading the rest of the series.

For the love of yourself, skip this one.

I have several issues with this bucket of dirty bath water that is this audiobook.

Firstly, the narrator has a odd and distracting cadence with too long pauses between commas. She’s got a pretty good grasp on the Scottish accents but she fritters in and out of an American and English accent when I suppose she’s trying to have an English accent. She also pronounced several words wrong. These little things ripped me out of the story and made it seem 100 years long.

As for the story, I’m just at a loss to comprehend why I just read a romance novel in which the main male character refuses to bathe more than twice a year. There was a part where the main female character watches him take of his clothes and admires his body. Details about his ass which were supposed to enflame the reader only had me think that this man has not washed his ass in 6 months! I can’t think of anything more *not hot* than that.

The author also used a lot of words which seemed to be “of the time,” but then fritter in and out with modern words and sayings. Again, distracting me from the story. She also seemed to really like the Gaelic word for whisky because 3/4 into the book it was said 50 times. Of course the narrator butchered the pronunciation of that too.

I tried explaining this book to my fiancé and we both couldn’t stop laughing at how insane it was to write a romance novel about poor hygiene.

TL;DR: unless your kink is unwashed ass and frustrating narration, skip this one.

Kind of stupid.....

Lynsay Sand's books make me laugh - even if the characters are fairly dumb. I guess that's the REASON they make me laugh! However, I feel like almost a quarter of the book was related to the Chastity Belt that the heroine wore in order to make her husband take a bath! (He took only two a year - January and July) The dumb thing was that she DID end up finally letting him take her virginity when he was still semi-smelly. And after that, he husband, the next Laird of the Castle, went right back to not taking baths! He was very authoritarian - even more so than his father (the current Laird). His father had to explain to him finally, how to handle a woman. The father even went so far as to tell his son that, not matter what month it was, if you want to sleep with a woman, TAKE A BATH!
So there were two ignorant and stubborn young people, married to each other, and getting many things wrong.! It was a slightly amusing book, but still dumb.

Action, comedy and love. FANTASTIC !!!!! AAA***

this is a great book, I have read quite a few of these and thus is by far one of the best, along with another called, The Brat. thus book really has it all.. I have never listened to an audible book before, but I am having trouble with my eyes and really wanted to read this book again, so I brought it and gave it a go. it was great it was clear and well done. I love her voice!. I still prefer to read for myself but this was thoroughly enjoyable, and I was still able to get swept away to the old highlands and not just listen or read but see and feel this book !. in short.. Fantastic, love love love AAA*****
