Kennedys were always taught to win at all costs. And they did - but the costs were unimaginable....

Across decades and generations, the Kennedys have been a family of charismatic adventurers, raised to take risks and excel. Their name is synonymous with American royalty.

Their commitment to public service is legendary. But, for all the successes, the family has been blighted by assassinations, murder, fatal accidents, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse and sex scandals.

To this day, the Kennedys occupy a unique, contradictory place in the world's imagination: at once charmed and cursed; familiar and unknowable. The Kennedy Curse is a revealing, fascinating account of America’s most famous family, as told by the world's most trusted storyteller.

Really interesting

There was so much I didn't know about the Kennedy family. I enjoyed James Patterson's The last days of John Lennon so was looking forward to this one. Really fascinating historical account and learnt so much.

Careless people

I listened to the audio book of this, and while I couldn't stop listening, there were some head scratching moments. The "curse" involves having more money than sense, really. I remember some of the deaths and the book only re-enforced that the Kennedy's did stupid, ill-advised things and then paid the consequences. Also, the narrator did voices very badly - his female voices edge towards caricature and his non-white men towards racism. Still, this book made me grateful that my family is not rich and careless, so there is that!

Interesting

Some parts are obviously well known already, while others are also tragic to hear about.
The narration was fine until it was women speaking. Then David sounded sissy. Better to not try at all.

Couldn’t keep listening

The narrator ( a man) insists on doing Rose Kennedy’s voice and it sounds so creepy, I could not stand to listen to it.

Somewhat disjointed and superficial

The fact that the narrative chronology is based on individual characters rather than on events by necessity causes significant jumping forwards and back in time as each new character is referenced. This gave the book a disjointed feeling for me and I couldn’t really get into it.

Some of the characters and events lack the detail I had anticipated.

All in all I had been quite excited about this book when I downloaded it but it never really gripped or even engaged me, which was disappointing.

Kennddy Curse review

A compelling story, well written and researched. I wish the reader had resisted the temptation to read the quotes in a Kennedy accent.

Horrible family, full of own importance

Book well written. Narrator does voices, they grate sometimes. History well served as biographies go.

Some insights

Reads like an ordinary biography. Only a few correlations with the 'curse'. Some insights into the family members' lifestyles and relationships. When it comes to the JFK assassination, unbelievably the author pushes the 'lone gunman' theory. Well narrated.

Forced to write a review.

Why audible forcing people to write reviews, it locks you on the page until done - this silly marketing ploy should be banned

Cut the music!

Fascinating book, great insight, I thoroughly enjoyed it........apart from the infuriating music between chapters. This really detracted from the book.

Super narration for this

Very well written and structured account of the Kennedy family. The non-linear style works extremely well and the narration is superb.

I listened intently over 2 days and was well worth it.

Would highly recommend to anyone interested in finding out more about this prominent family or details of the so-called ‘Kennedy curse’.

5 stars all round!
