About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Kennedys were always taught to win at all costs. And they did - but the costs were unimaginable....

Across decades and generations, the Kennedys have been a family of charismatic adventurers, raised to take risks and excel. Their name is synonymous with American royalty.

Their commitment to public service is legendary. But, for all the successes, the family has been blighted by assassinations, murder, fatal accidents, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse and sex scandals.

To this day, the Kennedys occupy a unique, contradictory place in the world's imagination: at once charmed and cursed; familiar and unknowable. The Kennedy Curse is a revealing, fascinating account of America’s most famous family, as told by the world's most trusted storyteller.

I enjoyed the book but did find it a little annoying the way it bounced back and forth in time and sometimes seemed to repeat what I had already heard

Good but

Some parts are obviously well known already, while others are also tragic to hear about.
The narration was fine until it was women speaking. Then David sounded sissy. Better to not try at all.

Over the years, the story of the Kennedys has provided authors with a wealth of text - keeping in mind that much of what has been written has been purely speculative either from those who knew the family or those who listened to gossip about them. Being such public personalities has, over the years, enabled writers to gain access to a significant amount of factual data surrounding the Kennedys hence the book contains a lot of information which is correct and irrefutable. Added to that, the conjecture which intertwines the story is just that.... conjecture. All this combines to make a very interesting story- particularly the beginning chapters which focus on the family's beginnings and their migration from Ireland. What is particularly annoying though, is the reader's attempt to copy the voices and accents of some of the characters - particularly those whom he is which quoting directly. They come across as whiny and insipid and really detract from what is otherwise an interesting book. Worth a "read.

AN INTERESTING AND WORTHWHILE READ

There was so much I didn't know about the Kennedy family. I enjoyed James Patterson's The last days of John Lennon so was looking forward to this one. Really fascinating historical account and learnt so much.

Really interesting
