About this listen

Violet Lasting is no longer a human being. Tomorrow she becomes Lot 197, auctioned to the highest royal bidder in the jewel of the Lone City. Tomorrow she becomes the surrogate of the House of the Lake, her sole purpose to produce a healthy heir for the duchess, imprisoned in the opulent cage of the palace, where the royal women compete to secure their bloodline and the surrogates are treated as disposable commodities…

I really enjoyed this book, I didn't think I would as I love period drama but found I engaged quickly as it's very similar to hunger games. Thoroughly enjoyable read kept me on the edge of my sit,

I love this book! Violet is taken from her home and trained to be sold as Lot 197, surrogate for the Duchess in The Jewel. There she meets Ash and *swoon* Daring. Adventure. Magic.

Things to be aware of before reading 1. Beware it ends on a cliffhanger. 2. The romance IMO is very much subplot 3. There is little to no smut which I actually appreciate but I know others won't.

It kept me engaged and the narrator did really well especially with the different voices as they were quite distinct.

Now, I'm a sucker for dystopian, flawed systems with mystery and rebellions which is problably the part that kept me reading. The plot was way more interesting than the romance side of it. It came across as puppy love to me and happened very quickly although. I wasn't attached to the relationship. BUT I like both characters individually. I don't know about the overall character development as it's quite fast paced and central to Violet. I'm guessing that will deepend in the next books but most of the characters come across as 1 dimensional to me.

Overall I recommend!
