About this listen

Katie Price is baffled when a man claiming to be her grandfather leaves her his entire estate in the Scottish Highlands. The bulk of the estate consists of a thriving whisky distillery and a moldering castle, where the eccentric old man actually lived until his death. The will stipulates that Katie must travel to Scotland and claim her inheritance in person.

As Katie’s stay extends from weeks into months, she uncovers the secret that led to her mother’s birth, and begins to unravel a 250-year-old mystery surrounding the beautiful young wife of the last laird of Clan McBride. According to local lore, Isobel McBride vanished from the castle without a trace shortly after the Battle of Culloden, and some believe that her ghost still walks the battlements at night. A strange dream in Isobel’s tower room leads Katie to Isobel’s hiding place, where she discovers love letters from a man other than Isobel’s husband, his initials being the only clue to his identity.

As Katie begins to unearth the clues to Isobel’s fate, she embarks on a romantic journey of her own and finds a new life she never expected.

Author's note: Due to several complaints, the book has been extensively re-edited as of July 20, 2013.

Overall I enjoyed the blend of Scottish history with a modern day, albeit predictable, love story. Also I was happy not to have to listen to graphic sex scenes.
Unfortunately the narration detracts from the whole. The Scottish accent should only be attempted by someone fluent in accent mimicry. The phrasing was very poor to the point that it was difficult to keep up with which particular was speaking.

Interesting Scottish history

I felt that I needed a break from the nineteenth century and am so glad that I did. This is a charming story even though a lot of the content is gruesome. Of course the Highlands call and I am there to respond. The author has surprised me with her talents to change genres.

I really enjoyed this book.

As always Irina writes a captivating tale, the two stories intertwined was a little stilted for me, but I enjoyed hearing both stories none the less 😊

Loved it

This may well be a good book, but the horrendous Scottish accent was just too much for me. I had to stop listening

I Couldn't go on

As the story was set in Scotland it surely would have made more sense to find a narrator that could narrate with a Scottish accent, the narration was terrible and cringeworthy, I’d hate to think what a true Scott would think, it almost stopped me listening!

Okay but Narration let it down
