About this listen
203 countries. A decade of travel. Not a single plane in sight. This is the story of one man's journey to be the first to visit every country in the world without flight.
When Thor Pedersen set out on the adventure of a lifetime, he couldn't have imagined the people he'd meet and the experiences he'd encounter along the way. But embarking on this epic voyage took him to the brink of his sanity, wiped his funds and tested the relationships he held dear.
Over the years he faced grave danger, from encounters with drunken armed soldiers to life-threatening illness and even traversing the high seas, with wild waves destabilising the cargo ship he'd hitched a ride on. He'd sleep on the street one night and dine in the homes of billionaires the next. He visited countries stricken with war-zones, and once had to take an 11,919 km detour, revisiting seven countries, traversing Baluchistan in Pakistan escorted by armed guards because he was denied a visa while in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Life becomes complicated without the luxury of flying.
Yet after years of challenges and milestones, Thor achieved something no other human ever has. The Impossible Journey is a triumphant memoir as he invites the world to share in this once in a lifetime adventure. He imparts the lessons, stories and unique perspectives on humanity he learned along the way.©2025 Thor Pedersen (P)2025 Red Sand Solutions

Love This Book - The Impossible Journey
The Impossible Journey by Thor Pedersen is an extraordinary testament to human willpower, endurance, and global curiosity. I was instantly hooked and repeated the book twice. Chronicling an epic journey across every single country on Earth—without ever boarding a plane—He invites readers into a world of logistical nightmares, cultural revelations, and profound personal transformation. With a tone that’s both humble and honest, he shares the raw emotional highs and lows of crossing borders by land and sea, navigating political instability, visa hurdles, and the crushing loneliness that comes with such an unprecedented mission. His writing doesn’t glorify the adventure; instead, it lays bare the grit, patience, and respect for humanity required to make the impossible possible.
The many close counters he had in not getting his VSA in Equatorial Guinea and the discipline he had in letting a ship sail away as only 24 hour stay counted as a proper visit is a testament of his will power. The most thrilling part was in the circumstances he proposed to Lee. What a mood that might have been.
What makes this book more than a travel memoir is its deeper message: connection. Pedersen’s encounters with strangers turned helpers, friends, and lifelines show that despite vast differences in geography, language, and culture, kindness is a universal currency. The Impossible Journey is not just about reaching 203 countries—it’s about expanding the idea of what’s achievable when you commit wholeheartedly to a dream. For travelers, dreamers, and anyone craving a story of perseverance against all odds, this book is a compelling, unforgettable ride.
