Publisher's Summary

Some skills you never lose. Killing is one of them.

Matthew Riker keeps to himself, doesn't cause trouble, and never talks about his past. But after a chance encounter with a woman and a small child on the run, Riker will have to make a choice: use his hard-won skills to protect two innocent victims, or stay in the safety of his quiet life.

What follows is an adrenaline-soaked thrill ride that will take Riker on a cross-country chase, through the seedy underbelly of a New York criminal empire, and into the darkest places of the human heart.

Fans of John Wick, Jack Reacher, and Jason Bourne...get ready to meet Matthew Riker.

Includes a bonus novella from the Matthew Riker series, No Loose Ends.

A Reluctant Hero...

Although hailed as being on par with Jack Reacher and
Jason Bourne the protagonist (Matthew Ryker) in this new series has more in common with Jack Winchester. This book is fast and fun and full of action. There are places in the story that require a suspension of disbelief.
The outstanding narration by Jay Snyder completes the book making it a great rather than just a good listen.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great start to a new series!

THE IMPORT has already been reviewed by Audible listener Shelley so read her review and give it a helpful vote.

I do want to echo a comment made by Shelley in her review. Matthew Riker is more similar to Jack Winchester than Jack Reacher. The 12 novel Jack Winchester series by Jon Mills deserves a lot more attention than it has received. I recommend it!

Enjoyable

To be honest, I purchased this book because it was an action book read by Jay Snyder. In my opinion, Snyder is the best audiobook narrator for this type of genre. My expectations were minimum for the book itself, but I found the book to be quite enjoyable. Mr. Baier is not as skilled a writer as Mark Greaney, but there was enough action and character development to make it a fast read. At times the writing was a little short and choppy but otherwise it held my attention. If you like Orphan X and the Grey Man, you would probably like this book.

Exciting book and wonderful narration..

Started a little slow but sure picked up. Riker went from not wanting to kill anyone to killing everyone. The bad guys all got exactly what they deserved, and then some more. Because he was doing his best to save a 3 year old girl who was about to be sold. He didn't know why or care why he just knew he had to save her******

No romance and the F-bomb was used 19 times******

As for the narration: Jay Snyder is an awesome narrator! He did the entire series of The Gray Man and I loved every book******

Just ok

I hate to be critical but the writing is somewhat amateurish. Conversations are not natural and are kind of hokey. I really like this genre of books but I had to force myself to finish this one. It does have lots of action. It’s also very unrealistic. No former seal would go into a situation without a gun. And he continues to get low on ammo despite killing guys who have plenty.

Promising, but disappointing.

I tried this novel hoping to fill a gap by my quitting of the John Wells series. The author appears to be a young writer dipping his or her toes into the action genre. Some problems: (1) the end of the book is foretold in the prologue. No real surprises. (2) The author's ignorance and exaggeration of a 3-yr-old's abilities borders on the laughable. (3) Some of the fight scenes are beyond believable: an unarmed guy against multiple gunmen, not just once but several times. The little girl he is protecting considers him a "super-hero" for good reason. (4) The author's knowledge of spy gear is, to say the least, inadequate. E.g., no gps "chip" can keep functioning for days without some power source. Just the same, I may try the second book in the series, hoping the writing has improved.

Great book, seriously

Not much for writing reviews, but for this book I made an exception. Talented author. This is so so good. Fast paced, great character in Ryker, and the story just pulls you in. I’m about 2/3 done and cannot wait to buy the next book. Wish there were more books in this series. I will buy them all.

Great new book

My 1st book by this author & it definitely captures you from beginning to the end.
I enjoyed the 1st book in the series that I've already purchased the other 2 books in the series before finishing the 1st book. The narrator did a great job!!

a navy seal without a gun

I just started this book and enjoy it. But he is an ex navy seal keeps no weapon. He fights guys and leaves their weapons. Then he goes into another confrontation with no gun because he chose no to Grable from a bad guy. This is very unSeal like. Makes no sense
