About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

An unforgettable story about a family with a terrible secret. From the #1 bestselling author of Then She Was Gone, The Night She Disappeared and The Family Upstairs.

When a tragedy breaks a family apart, what can bring it back together?

The Birds seem to be the perfect family: mother, father, four children, a picture-book cottage in the country.

But one Easter weekend, something happens - something so unexpected, so devastating, that no one can bring themselves to talk about it.

The family shatters, seemingly for good.

Until, years later, they are forced to return to the house they grew up in, and to confront what really broke the family apart...

The narrative was a little over complicated but overall another great listen. Rory story somewhat unresolved as to why he left .

While I didn't enjoy the story as much as some of Lisa's others, its still well worth a listen, exploring much deeper than mere family dynamics, into intricacies and spawn of repressed memories and secrets. I love the little easter eggs Lisa always dots along the journey..E.g "the cast of his childhood, wandered off-stage forever". Enjoy!

Like a lot of Jewell novels, it took me some time ( and rewinding !) to latch onto all the characters. But after a while I was completely enthralled. I actually couldn’t put it down. Such a web of complex yet , completely normal people interwoven into a family saga that could have belonged to any of us. Thoroughly enjoyed!

What a great read !

Every family has a story to tell. Secrets that affect its members in so many ways. This is the story of one's family. Beautifully written and narrated.

I have loved all the Lisa Jewell books that I have read, but this one was by far my favourite. Be prepared to feel all of the emotions in this book. The voice of the people who narrated it were so beautiful to listen to. I normally have to speed up books when I listen to them, but these voices I wanted to take in slowly. Loved it. I can't wait to start my next one!

Excellent!
