Summary
After an absence of 20 years, Charlie O'Reilly returns to the goldmining town of Maiden's Creek. Despite her bitter memories, she's determined to prove her worth as the new matron of the hospital. The anonymity of the town also provides an escape from the unwanted attentions of a man who can bring her nothing but trouble.
The town has also left its scars on Danny Hunt. Despite his wealth and success as a criminal lawyer in Melbourne, his childhood memories have left him with questions his parents are reluctant to answer. When the opportunity arises to travel to Maiden's Creek, he hopes that he might find the answers he's seeking.
After a nurse is brutally murdered, Charlie and Danny come together in an uneasy alliance, with one purpose: clear the name of a mutual friend accused of the killing.
