Publisher's Summary

From the bestselling author of The House Guest comes a chilling story set deep in the woods...

With his marriage over and his career in freefall, journalist Tom decides to reconnect with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Frankie. Desperate to spend precious time together now that they live an ocean apart, he brings her to Hollow Falls, a cabin resort deep in the woods of Maine.

From the outset there’s something a little eerie about the place—strange whispers in the trees, windchimes echoing through the forest—but when Tom meets true-crime podcasters David and Connie, he receives a chilling warning. Hollow Falls has a gruesome history: twenty years ago this week, a double slaying shut down the resort. The crime was never solved, and now the woods are overrun with murder-obsessed tourists looking to mark the grim anniversary.

It’s clear that there’s something deeply disturbing going on at Hollow Falls. And as Tom’s dream trip turns into a nightmare, he and Frankie are faced with a choice: uncover the truth, or get out while they still can.

Great Story HORRIBLE NARRATOR

Brilliance audio owes Mark Edwards an apology for casting such a mediocre narrator for his truly engaging story.

Tired of poor performances

Another winner by Mark Edwards. Just getting tired by the underwhelming narrators lately. This was a very poor performance imo and took away from the overall enjoyment of this great author.

The story is great!

Wow! I'm never sure what to write in a review, but I think this is one of my new favorites from Mark Edwards! The Hollows will grab you from the beginning and keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. The story is creepy and chilling, and moves along at a nice pace. This would be a great book to read near Halloween, or in the winter months when it gets dark out much earlier. I think this book is much more in the horror/thriller genre and reminiscent of Stephen King.

The narrator is not my favorite for this book. I own several books narrated by Guy Mott that I enjoy, but he talks with a weird halting at the end of all of his words in this book and it's a bit distracting while listening.

Narration is laughable

I barely made it through the second chapter. The narrator is horrible! The hideousness of his adult American voice is surpassed only by the voice of his daughter. His normal voice is pompous and grating. Just no.

Narrator kills it

The Narrator's American accents are nothing but caricatures of whiney teenagers, regardless of the age of the character being narrated.
The reading of signs and the like are done in such a peculiar way, using teenager angst in the reading. It was offputting. Then again, the story itself was also such a cliche.

This was ridiculous

I liked the earlier books he wrote. These are turning into a second rate Stephen King. That accent he had for the kid, Frankie, was awful. Like a stereotypical New York accent. The story itself, unrealistic responses to situation. One of the very few I refused to endure to the end, made it 8 hours in.

Fairly good story

This is kind of “ghosts and gouls” in the beginning, but stick it out because it gets better! The narration isn’t the best, but the story itself is good. Definitely not the best book I’ve read but also not the worst. Worth the credit.

Can’t listen to narrator

Made it to chapter 11 because I was on a flight and couldn’t download anything else but This narrator is terrible. Going to finish reading the book on my Kindle and hope I can get the character voices he did out of my head!

I tried.

I couldn't get past chapter 11 and that was a stretch. I really wanted to like it. Sorry.

The narrator ruined this.

I can not get over how bad the narrator was, I want to finish but he really is bad. I kept thinking that the characters were shaggy and scooby or from family guy. The female voices were even worse, giving the impression of something completely different than what I think the writer wanted. I might return and just read it myself. Only an hour and a half in.

Narration is awful

I had this book on my wish list for ages and preordered it as I love Mark Edward's books, I was so looking forward to it, but this one is totally ruined by the narrator. I'm not even sure I can finish it. I feel like I am being lectured not read a story, it's so difficult to connect with and like the characters when the narrator gives them such ridiculous and whiney voices!! I would love to know if the author has any input in the choice of narrator. if not you have done him a serious injustice. if this was my first experience of a Mark Edward's book, I would never listen to another. Fortunately I discovered him long before this horrid version

laboriously slow

I have read Mark Edwards books before. I thought this book was quite unlike any he written before. The narrator was appalling, the American accent was poor. I carried on through the 10 hours of listening because I very rarely give up. Overall I would say that I shall give up on mark Edwards books going forward

Awful Narration

I can tell there is a good story in here, but how good or if it’s worth continuing with I’ll never know after the 4 hrs I’ve just spent with it.. simply put, the narrator does an absolutely terrible job of this, he has absolutely no idea how to tell a story, truly awful.

Reminiscent of those 1980s Campsite horror movies

I pre-order everything that Mark Edwards writes because I know I will love it. The Hollows certainly didn't disappoint! Mark has given us another creepy thriller, set once again, in the USA.

The Hollows campsite has a backstory which will thrill any true-crime fans - it's the site of a n unsolved ritualistic murder which took place 10 years ago. Perhaps the protagonist, Tom, should have done more research before taking his teenage daughter on holiday there! The place is teeming with 'dark tourists' and soon some pretty spooky things start to happen. The whole thing reminded me a bit of those 1980s horror movies like Friday 13th.

The book sucked me in right from the start. I'm a horror fan so loved the creepy vibe of the campsite and dark, eerie woods which sent chills down my spine. It is well written and perfectly paced and it was very hard to stop listening. The characters are all really well drawn. I loved Tom, the divorced father trying to do his best despite living in a different continent to his daughter. And daughter Frankie came across as a very realistic teenager. I also loved Tom and Franki's neighbours at the campsite, Connie and David. This book is definitely one of my favourites by Mark Edwards.

I enjoyed the narration by Guy Mott.

Amazon as always.

Another brilliant book from Mark. Always a twist that you don’t see coming. Always leaves you on the edge of your seat as it’s takes you through the twists and turns. Can’t wait for the next one.
