About this listen

Beyond the boundaries of the town of Gost, Croatia, an old house which has lain empty for years is showing signs of life: Laura and her teenage children have arrived. As Duro Kolak, a local handyman, helps with repairs to the old house, they uncover a mosaic beneath the ruined plaster and painstakingly restore it. But Gost is not all it seems; conflicts long past still suppurate beneath the scars.

The writing full of nuance and depth, there is a lot of description of how things look, smell and sound. It makes for a very vivid experience - really like watching a film.
The narration was excellent and proved something possible that I had despaired was beyond hoping for. Leadbetter managed to avoid (for an entire book! set in croatia!) putting on a horrible fake accent. He also managed somehow to refrain from using a high pitched annoying voice for the lead female character or a whiny voice for either of the teens. In fact he didn't really do much of putting on voices - instead opting to simply read the book. (what!?) It was glorious. Every actor planning to narrate an audiobook should be forced to listen to this.

Flawless Narration. Excellent story.
