About this listen

When Dimple Met Rishi meets Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda in this romantic comedy about two teen girls with rival henna businesses.

Nishat doesn't want to lose her family, but she also doesn't want to hide who she is, and it only gets harder once a childhood friend walks back into her life. Flávia is beautiful and charismatic, and Nishat falls for her instantly. But when a school competition invites students to create their own businesses, both Flávia and Nishat decide to showcase their talent as henna artists. In a fight to prove who is the best, their lives become more tangled - but Nishat can't quite get rid of her crush, especially since Flávia seems to like her back.

As the competition heats up, Nishat has a decision to make: stay in the closet for her family, or put aside her differences with Flávia and give their relationship a chance.

I’m quickly becoming a BIG fan of Adiba’s writing. Her books are exactly the flavour my soul needs, always make me feel all squishy inside and fluttery in my heart. If I had to sum this up in a few words I’d say “cheesy (in a good way) LGBT romantic coming-of-age comedy your teenage self wishes they were out of the closet for, but reading these now makes your queer heart sing”. I wish my teenage self could have read these, the stories and the characters and their triumphs and defeats are all so so relatable, I’m transported back to my teen self in school navigating being queer and all the pros and cons that come with it. I love that her stories incorporate additional perspectives from cultures other than my own, I find it insightful and delightful learning about other cultures through these stories. If you’re just listening to her books for the first time this is an excellent place to start, but don’t stop here! “The dos and donuts of love” was also phenomenal, and I’m about to listen to “Hani and Ishus guide to fake dating”!!

All I can say is MORE MORE MORE!!! Keep em coming, Adiba!!! Please! :)

Absolutely beautiful, heartwarming, delightful
