About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Enter a vanished and unjust world: Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Where Black maids raise white children, but aren't trusted not to steal the silver....

There's Aibileen, raising her 17th white child and nursing the hurt caused by her own son's tragic death; Minny, whose cooking is nearly as sassy as her tongue and white Miss Skeeter, home from college, who wants to know why her beloved maid has disappeared.

Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. No one would believe they'd be friends; fewer still would tolerate it. But as each woman finds the courage to cross boundaries, they come to depend and rely upon one another. Each is in a search of a truth, and together they have an extraordinary story to tell....

Loved every minute of it. Highly entertaining and very well presented . I saw the movie, which I enjoyed, before listening to the book. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the book is a little different to the movie but just as entertaining . I thought the narration was great. This story provides a fascinating snapshot of the not so distant past. Thoroughly worth the time.

Heartfelt story so well thought out and presented by very gifted narrators.Loved the tips given especially the one about using a potato on a broken light bulb.was so touching when the white child coloured herself black so she could be like her black Nanny.Wisdom given by her Nanny so the child would always know she was special.Another view of being black in a white environment. Both are human.

Precious moments
