Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Enter a vanished and unjust world: Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Where Black maids raise white children, but aren't trusted not to steal the silver....

There's Aibileen, raising her 17th white child and nursing the hurt caused by her own son's tragic death; Minny, whose cooking is nearly as sassy as her tongue and white Miss Skeeter, home from college, who wants to know why her beloved maid has disappeared.

Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. No one would believe they'd be friends; fewer still would tolerate it. But as each woman finds the courage to cross boundaries, they come to depend and rely upon one another. Each is in a search of a truth, and together they have an extraordinary story to tell....

Stunning

Brilliantly written and truly wonderful narration. Moving, intelligent, and timelessly relevant. The characters came alive and inhabited my heart. Wished it was longer. Laughed and cried.

Great story

Enjoyed this book, it's a real shame how people choose to treat others so rudely. Loved the narration.

Very very good

This book took 5 years to write, and then another 4 years to get published, after that it sold 7 million copies and stayed at the top of the best seller list for 100 weeks, all the publishers that rejected this should get the sack.

Fantastic book

One of my memories of living in California, was when I was aged 6. It was 1963.
We had to catch h the bus. As my mum struggled on with myself, my sister and my baby brother, there were no seats. I ran up the aisle and yelled back, " mummy there are seats here!" She said in a quiet voice, " only black people sit at the back of the bus". Perhaps that's why this story resonated so vividly for me. I played with all sorts of children, black, white, Vietnamese, Español, in our neighborhood . No one cared. Children are accepting of everyone. The funniest thing is , my mother was born in Indian of French Portugese parents. So not exactly blond haired and blue eyed. A good woman, but a scared one.

Wonderful and thoughtful

I had seen the movie before reading the book. I loved the movie but the book is so much better. Funny, sad and thought provoking. Highly recommend

Freedom, women, stories

The Help is an amazing story that opens anyone s eyes about what these beautiful women were put through,
I didn’t want it to end.
I believe the last few sentences were so touching
I really felt love for Minnie and the others
Miss Skeeter was brave.
it seemed like everyone had to part , go their own way.
A must for anyone who likes fiction but also supplies some facts of the era and what it was like to live in Abaleens shoes.
