Harry Garside

About this listen
Uh oh, here’s another celebrity wanker with a self-help book telling everyone how to live their lives. Don’t worry. It’s not. I can’t think of anything worse to listen to, let alone write, so I won’t subject you to that.

In The Good Fight, Harry Garside, Australia’s ballet dancing boxing star, offers a raw account of his journey through sport, unexpected challenges and personal growth. Harry opens up about his remarkable journey with wit and wisdom, and offers a refreshing perspective on masculinity, sharing his struggles, triumphs, and moments of profound self-discovery.

Having won both gold and bronze medals at the Commonwealth and Tokyo Olympic games respectively, and playing a starring role at the 2024 Olympics, Harry is one of Australia’s stand-out boxing talents.

Through personal anecdotes and heartfelt poetry, Garside invites listeners to see beyond the stereotypes, offering a nuanced exploration of identity, resilience, and showing how to be comfortable in your own skin.

I listened to this book with such hope for my boys. On so many levels. You are an inspiration, a genuine hero. I am a mother and have 6 boys between 4 and 13, and I am so worried about the world they are growing up in, on so many levels!! As I read this I hoped it would be suitable for my older boys, but in many parts it may not be and so may lose them along the way (I’m hard pressed to get them to read anything anyway so don’t want to blow my chance!) - I’m begging you to consider writing a book for young teens. You are so relatable, and such a role model for boys growing up in a world not only socially terrifying thanks to social media, but so additionally confusing for them with all of the anti-men, ‘toxic masculinity’ messages all mixed in with the same old gender stereotypes that ridicule men for showing anything but machismo. Basically they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t and it hurts me to know the internal angst they’re walking towards.
This book is a well-written and insightful reflection on what it means to just be yourself, for yourself, from someone truly relatable. You’re an inspiration. Words can’t do my feelings justice without making me sound OTT.
But just, ‘thank you’.
Harry, you are fantastic. Please write a book for young teens!!
