Story
For Dave Robicheaux, life in Louisiana is filled with haunting memories of the past - images from Vietnam, the violent streets of New Orleans, and his own troubled youth. In Crusader's Cross, a deathbed confession from an old schoolmate resurrects a story of injustice, the murder of a young woman, and a time in Robicheaux's life he has tried to forget. Her name may or may not have been Ida Durbin. It was back in the innocent days of the 1950s when Robicheaux and his brother, Jimmie, met heron a Galveston beach.

Story
The forty-year-old crucifixion of a prominent labor leader named Jack Flynn remains an unsolved atrocity that has never been forgotten in New Iberia, Louisiana. When Flynn's daughter Megan, a photojournalist drawn to controversial subjects, returns to the site of her father's murder, it quickly becomes clear that her family's bloodstained past will not stay buried. Megan gives her old friend Dave Robicheaux a tip about a small-time criminal named Cool Breeze Broussard, scarcely suspecting that the seemingly innocuous case will lead Robicheaux and his partner into the midst of deadly conspiracy. Combining brilliant prose, crackling suspense, and an exquisite sense of character and place, Sunset Limited is a wrenching tale of historic violence and soiled redemption that reveals America's finest novelist at his masterful best.

Pleasant Surprise
This was on offer 6.99 down from 24.99, so I wasn't especially optimistic when I decided to get it, I mean if it's brilliant, why would it be so cheap? Well, what a joy, well written and well read. Recommended to all, especially those not afraid to cry!

Where do they go from here!!??
Robicheaux and Purcell have held me enthralled by their adventures for years!
With the constant twists and turns of this story and the psychological portraits of all the characters, Burke has kept me breathless from beginning to end.

Tedious in the extreme
I bought this on the strength of reviews on Amazon and Audible, and I was sorely disappointed. I found the story tedious in the extreme, the narrator's voice was in the minor key that made me think of mournful music, very depressing, though I do think he was skilled with the different voices he used in character. I think the tone he used for the majority of the book just relayed the main character's personality.
I really didn't like any of the characters much at all, and the story of murders didn't seem to be the main purpose of the tale. I won't bother with this author again, though I do appreciate that he has a very strong following, he is not to my taste.

Favorite so far
Great story but also the narration by Will Patton and the dialogue is just genius. Clete Purcel is by far the best character and his exchanges with quick witted young street kid who spend much of the novel being referred to 'kiss my ass' is just the funniest and skillful I have come across! The story too is skilfully crafted.
