About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

You live on a picturesque communal garden square, an oasis in urban London where your children run free, in and out of other people's houses.

You've known your neighbours for years and you trust them. Implicitly.

You think your children are safe.

But are they really?

Midsummer night: a thirteen-year-old girl is found unconscious in a dark corner of the garden square. What really happened to her? And who is responsible?

Utterly believable characters, a gripping story and a dark secret buried at its core: this is Lisa Jewell at her heart-stopping best.

I have always loved Lisa’s books but this one was a little predictable … I was able to pick the villain early!
Still quite enjoyed it though.
Great narration.

Predictable

Such a gripping story! But the ending… it was unfinished!! Why?! So many unanswered questions about so many of the characters. It feels like there should be a sequel explaining

Uhg the ending

Great characters with twists and turns around every corner of their communal garden and lives

Fantastic

Have been loving Lisa Jewell’s other books but found this one a bit obvious (missing the ‘who dunnit’ ending), and quite short. It felt like the book was written in a rush because it had been promised to be produced by a deadline. Moments of her trademark skilful writing but overall found this one a bit disappointing. Love this author, but suggest you pick other titles for better examples of her work.

Not her best :(

The sound of the narrators swallowing after every paragraph was a bit icky...

The book itself was okay, not one of her best, but still enjoyable.

The Swallowing!!
