Publisher's Summary

When Angela was young, before she came to realize she had a rare ability, she was a rather ordinary girl. At least, that was what everyone said. But Angela is anything but ordinary. The daughter of a meth addict, she is convinced she was born a freak. Haunted by an abusive childhood, she was forced to become a woman far too soon. And in the process, she became more.

Angela juggles multiple jobs to live a secluded life in a cabin in the mountains. But she also lives a secret life, right under everyone's noses. Because her family's bloodline carries the ability to recognize killers, she adopts a solitary, violent existence in service of her own, personal mission in life. When Angela unexpectedly finds herself the prey of a group of international terrorists, she is the only one who knows the truth of what they are about to do. She might look like an unlikely hero. She might also be our only hope.

Awesome from start to finish

Absolutely loved the characters especially Angela who is now my super hero. I was captured by the story from star to finish.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I couldn’t stop listening. Great storyline, really interesting character. Can’t wait for the next book. If you like a kick arse, slightly damaged female character then read/listen to this book.

Overworked

Story line was good although so extreme making it unbelievable at times. Biggest problem with this book is the repetitive phrasing. Over describing with the same phrases. Also the earnest nature of the reading made me need to have breaks from listening rather than never wanting to stop.

Loved everything about this book!

The characters were memorable, the plot was different, and the reader was awesome. I want more! The author's take on the long-term terrorist plot has also really made me think, too.

Intense and heart-pounding!

This book was intense! I loved it. Angela is fascinating in so many ways. I love how bad-ass she is, and for all of the right reasons! The story sucked me in and had my blood pressure up, but not in that maddening way that I hate. My heart raced, and I had fun learning what made Angela tick, and wondering what she could possibly do next. I got angry right along with her and felt her frustrations, but then, Wow! I can't tell you too much about that, without major spoilers. She's awesome! For those of you who like his Sword of Truth series, you'll be interested to know that Kahlan in the Con Dar is a children's tale in comparison.

Absolute Garbage

I haven’t read a Terry Goodkind book in many years. A few hours into this book and I am remembering exactly why. I’m no prude, and I’m definitely not the type to clutch my pearls, but this book is a dumpster full of flaming trash. Repeated scenes of graphic rape, degradation, and torture are so grotesquely overused and shoved down the reader’s throat, that the book is a complete bore. It’s full of contrived scenes that, in my opinion, do nothing to develop the characters, propel the story, or communicate any meaningful theme. The narration is decent, but nothing can save this material. I have wasted five hours of my life on this book. I have decided to call it quits and return it. Save yourself the credit and your time.

Heavy in political messaging.

Terry’s Sword of Truth/Confessor series had me hooked, but The Girl in the Moon was inundated with political innuendo.

I do not understand all of the rave reviews!

Would you try another book from Terry Goodkind and/or Elisabeth Rodgers?

If this is representative of his writing, then absolutely not.

Would you ever listen to anything by Terry Goodkind again?

No!

Have you listened to any of Elisabeth Rodgers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I found the performance to be quite good, it was the writing that was unacceptable.

What character would you cut from The Girl in the Moon?

It isn't a matter of cutting characters. What they need is character development. The book also needs at least one character that you like and can identify with.

Any additional comments?

The over the top graphic details of the killings and rape scenes were completely unnecessary, any good writer can construct a scene that gives you just enough details so that the reader can visualize what is transpiring. I got to the point where I was so tired of not caring about any of the characters and having the endless graphic violence shoved down my throat I stopped listening after about six hours. I would like Terry Goodkind to somehow give me back the six hours of my life wasted listening to his book.

Ugh

He really let the xenophobia and sexism fly in this one. Some of this book was damn near impossible to get through. Only my love for the Sword of Truth series kept me going.

Had to quit on this one.

Too violent. Too bloody. Too much pleasure in it by the lead character. I am disappointed in the author. This work is beneath him. It is literary snuff porn. Zero stars and a waste of money unless you like that sort of thing. I wish I could wash my brain out after the little I managed to get through. Unfortunately I can't leave this review without at least one star, a flaw in the rating system in my opinion. Terry Goodkind, you blew this one!

tough start, great finish

The beginning is hard to listen to, but that makes the ending that much better. This author shows all sides of people. Another great story.

gripping, making sense of madness

Loved this masterpiece of a thriller with a fantastic protagonist whom I could relate to. I've read all Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth and children of D'Hara books so this was refreshingly different but still written in the same intelligent, gripping and thought provoking style. As usual with excellent details and descriptions of places, people etc.

Looking forward to the next episode

Not the normal SF I read but a thoroughly enjoyable read/listen. Well worth buying.
