Editorial reviews

An unnamed man believes he finds the girl he seeks, and in despair that he has lost her again he turns on the gas to (perhaps) find her again.

O. Henry - master of telling details and endings with clever twists - is admirably represented by this audio production of his work, one of Great Ghost Stories, an unsettling collection of eerie short stories by literary masters. Hauntingly performed by Dermot Kerrigan, the story turns on a lonely lodger in a new room taking in a faint scent, reminiscent of the woman he has been seeking for five months. It catapults him to action, first frenetic then tragic.
