The Fourth Person Within is a book about the life of a green beret. It chronicles his life leading up to and becoming one of America's most deadly weapons. The training is only one part of the equation, when it comes to being sent to Vietnam to train the mountain people to fight against the Viet Cong. The rest of it hinges on allowing that fourth person within each of us who only comes out in extreme circumstances, such as life and death situations or when dealing with something so horrific that our minds have trouble processing it.
