About this listen

Hal De Havilland is an up-and-coming attorney at a prestigious law firm. He keeps his head down, works hard, and pretends to be happy. It's a solitary existence, and given his history, he prefers it that way.

Hal's artfully ordered life descends into chaos when his aunt dies, naming him in her will. The inheritance leads him on a journey he'd never expected and wasn't sure he wanted. That's when he starts hearing the disembodied voice.

He finds a hidden safe in his aunt's closet with a puzzling letter addressed to him, beseeching him to take on a mission she’d been unable to complete herself—returning something of value to its original owners. But Hal's good intentions have deadly consequences when the wrong people catch wind of his mission. Those people want what he now has, and violence is not outside the realm of what they'll do to get it.

Fast cars, gun-toting motorcycle gangs, and an ethereal voice from the great beyond send Hal toppling into a world of peril. Along the way, he finds the people to whom these valuables belong. He's entranced by them. He believes in them. And they believe in him. Together, they must fight to retain what is rightfully theirs. If they fail, it may destroy them and the community they've established thousands of miles away.
