Publisher's Summary

From the best-selling author of The Lamb's Supper and Signs of Life comes an illuminating work on the Catholic Eucharist and its link to the Jewish Passover meal.

“Read this book. And don’t just read it. Pray about it. Reflect on it. And share it with others.” (Brant Pitre, author of The Case for Jesus

In this brilliant audiobook - part memoir, part detective story, and part biblical study - Scott Hahn opens up new vistas on ancient landscapes while shedding light on his own enduring faith journey. The Fourth Cup not only tracks the author’s gradual conversion along the path of Evangelicalism to the doorsteps of the Catholic faith, but also explores the often obscure and misunderstood rituals of Passover and their importance in foreshadowing salvation in Jesus Christ.

Revealing the story of his formative years as an often hotheaded student and earnest seeker in search of answers to great biblical mysteries, Hahn shows how his ardent exploration of the Bible’s Old Testament turned up intriguing clues connecting the Last Supper and Christ’s death on Calvary. As Hahn tells the story of his discovery of the supreme importance of the Passover in God’s plan of salvation, we, too, experience often-overlooked relationships between Abel, Abraham, and the Hebrews’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. Along the way, Hahn reveals how the traditional fourth cup of wine used in the concluding celebration of Passover explains in astonishing ways Christ’s paschal sacrifice.

Rooted in Scripture and ingrained with lively history, The Fourth Cup delivers a fascinating view of the bridges that span old and new covenants and celebrates the importance of the Jewish faith in understanding more fully Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Awesome read!

Hahn brought the Passover to the present, explaining the roots of our catholic faith and the fruit of the Eucharist today. I loved it and would highly recommend it to Catholics and anyone even remotely interested in finding out what Catholics hold central to their faith!

Solid study

I enjoyed this book as an introduction to the Jewish traditions of New Testament concepts. It is personal in nature as it is an autobiographical explanation Dr. Hahn's study and acceptance of Christ's True Presence in the Eucharist but that explanation is a well written apology and worth hearing and studying.

INCREDIBLE!

I am so grateful to have been able to listen to this book during this Lenten season. My understanding of and enthusiasm for the Catholic faith grows with each and every Scott Hahn book that I read. I look forward to reading this one, again, when I have the book in print!

quality writing

I enjoyed it, but it was written more for mass consumption rather than a deep theological discourse. I'll call it the spiritual equivalent of eating a rice cake...although I think that was the point.

Scott Hahn Spiritual conversion through scripture

Till ,I listened to this I did not know what this fourth cup ,was about .Uantil a priest friend mention his books title ,i did not know there was a 4th cup .let alone more than 1. Because all i hear at Mass in the memorialaclimation of one cup . Then ,in the Eucharistic prayer a chalice , This sheds a whole new light on the Last Supper/ first Mass. and Calvary.

Make this the book you read this Lent

Accessible to anyone familiar with Christianity, utterly satisfying, yet leaving the door open for further exploration, this book is an absolute must. Catholics and Protestants alike can appreciate this book. If you've previously read Dr. Scott Hahn's words about the fourth cup, do not use that as an excuse to skip this book, as it offers a multitude of insights found no where else in his works on the topic, and of course he can't help himself, but ties this topic into so many others. The last chapter of this book is fantastic. Don't be the kind of person to read the first couple chapters, get the gist of where he is heading, and move on to other things. This book builds, so grow along with it. God bless!

Amazing book.

Dr. Hahn's explanations we're well founded and exhaustively researched. I feel like I walked with Jesus to Emmaus. The Scriptures were opened for me.

Never doubt the quality of a Scott Hahn book!

As noted in the subject line, I made the mistake of putting off this book for a while. Doctor Hahn is always worth reading or listening to. He has a readable, moving, and extremely well informed manner of writing. The writing is academically well informed but at the same time not overly bookish. He manages to be informative without being preachy. She is never insulting to his roots or where he came from even after his conversion. This notes him as a solid evangelist and respectable man. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Beautifully done!

Dr. Hahn draws us into the Passover as we've probably never considered, as Christ led his Apostles through that last Passover.
