Well written despite predictability

The genre of thriller suspense is bombarded with repeated themes. I enjoyed this book more than the last dozen I’ve tried to get through. Well written. Would have enjoyed a little more creepy and less of the drawn out predictable mystery

Abrupt ending

Sooo I loved everything about this but it’s like the author lost interest and just threw in a twist so big you truly never saw it coming just so she could end it. I don’t know how I feel about it now. Like..... what?!

Eerie and extremely chilling!!

This book gave me the creeps. Very chilling at times and i pretty much listened to it in one day. I was constantly wondering which way this was going. I never knew! Emilia Fox was a great narrator. She did a marvelous job.

Gripping

The story was truly mesmerising from the beginning. The change to/from different timelines really kept me interested and kept me tuning in for more. I'll always love Emilia Fox's narration and this time it wasn't a disappointment.

Predictable and a bit shallow

The different strands running through this book were a bit weak and none of the characters were really developed to any extent. The plot was all bit predictable and tiresome and although I like Emilia Fox as an actress, I wasn't overly keen on her narration. Maybe she was a bit bored of the story too ?

Gripping story that addresses parents' worst fears

Loved the character development, was most interested in the uncle and the detective. Great how the crux of the story is gradually revealed as you read the book, leaving the reader with a whodunnit feel!

4 Debut Stars

This one is a bit of a slow burner, it starts off at a steady pace, but once it gets it's heels in, it's a race to the finish line, and I think a photo finish is just what it deserves! 1997 - Laurel and Primrose (Rosie for short) are sisters, Laurel is 10 and Rosie is 6, they are out playing in the park when they entice a small toddler to play down the canal path with them. The body of that toddler is later discovered brutally murdered and the 2 girls dubbed The Flower Girls in court are arrested, unfortunately Rosie is too young to be prosecuted, so Laurel stands trial for murder. Rosie and her parents are given new identities because of the media backlash and they move far away. Laurel serves her time, and 19 years later is up for parole, but the family of the murdered toddler have strong objections. Meanwhile, Hazel and her boyfriend are at a fancy hotel celebrating her 25th Birthday when a little 5 year old girl goes missing. The similarities between Hazel and the lesser known Rosie are noticed. Could she be the missing Flower Girl? Could she be responsible for the missing girl? 🎧🎧 - Narrated by Emilia Fox who is a regular on TV in the UK in things like Silent Witness. Emilia did an outstanding job narrating this one, I was very impressed with her narration skills, and will certainly not hesitate in buying another book that he has narrated again. If you are familiar with the news in the UK, then you may remember the murder of James Bulger, this was the first thing that popped into my head while reading this, I remember it being on every TV channel, and in every newspaper when I went into the shops, so I think that the media portrayal in this book was very well done.

Lost a star due to Americanisms!

This is a really compelling novel. It is derivative in as far as there are several books around that have taken the basic theme of two child killers from the Jamie Bulger case. However, this story is different to the others. I’ll say no more about that to avoid spoilers. The story is extremely well written. The characters are well drawn and throughout, there remains a sense if suspense. It loses one star for me due to American terms being sprinkled throughout (e.g. stoop for step, new years for new year’s eve). This is a pet hate of mine in a British book, written by a British author and set in Britain. I feel sure that Americans who choose to read British novels expect authentic British English to be used. It is jarring in a book set in Britain or Ireland and is, unfortunately, becoming more common. Of course this may be down to the publisher and not the author.

Interesting story with a good twist

I brought this book as I enjoy Emilia Fox's narration. It turned out to be a good story very reminiscent of the Bulger and Bell cases. It did drag a little in places but the end was a great twist which I feel could have been explored a bit throughout the book, this would have added tension and more depth. Generally enjoyable listen.

Anti climatic ending.

This book doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Each chapter offers, but never gives what could have been a brilliant read. The story is often repeated and never developed enough. Disappointing and a complete over use of the word visceral!
