Summary
The Fishcastle stands proud and high over the seaside village of Proudie Bay, where the sea meets the land. It is home to the Hardwicks - Marlin, teller of tales and charmer of snakes and women; his daughter, Jennifer, who keeps house; and his son, Gulliver, perfect in form but flawed in spirit. Creaking with secrets and a menagerie of creatures, the Fishcastle gathers many others into its rambling rooms and garden. One eventful summer under the Fishcastle's roof their lives are changed forever.©2000 Elizabeth Stead (P)2001 Bolinda Publishing Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction Literary Fiction

Oh my what a treasure of a book. I was so engrossed by the story and its setting I felt the sea salt on my lips and sea breeze in my hair. Absolutely enchanting story and characters. Sad and beautiful. Powerful and moving. Coupled with a brilliant narration by Caroline Lee it's a book not to be missed if you want something deep and meaningful.

Absolutely marvellous!

Beautifully written ... the story, the absorbing way one gets swept into the scene, the personalities ... even the ocean and the creatures had personalities and were part of the complexities and completeness. Spun with the same cleverness as Tim Winton. And of course the faultless craft of Caroline Lee brings it all to life. Bravo both of you!

Brilliant!

Caroline Lee was the only thing about this book that I liked and the only reason I kept going with it. I was waiting for it to get better but sadly, it didn't.
I frequently had to rewind as I drifted off and lost concentration. The characters were boring and nothing happened, there didn't
seem to be a plot to the story.
I heaved a big sigh of relief when it finished.

Like watching paint dry!! = don't bother
