About this listen
Gone to see the sunrise. V xxx
That’s the last anyone ever hears from twenty-year-old music lover Vicky.
Another victim of the Fellside Strangler?
That would make Vicky the fourth young woman to lose her life this summer. Snatched by a mysterious killer who stalks the fells . . .
But Vicky’s body is never found.
2019. A skeleton is discovered in a twisty network of caves beneath the fells. Detectives Leo Donovan and Shan Young think they can finally give Vicky’s mother the closure she so desperately wants. After twenty long years of questions and anguish.
But the deeper they dig into the past, the less certain they become.
And nothing can prepare them for the shocking truth . . .©2024 Cath Staincliffe (P)2025 W. F. Howes Ltd.
I was drawn in from the beginning, as the inspector and his new sergeant work their way through the mystery and personalities of the five young people who twenty years before, visited the Fells to attend. a weekend of pop music at a festival. Each young person with a perspective of what happened to Vicki and remembering her brightness and talent.
The personal lives of the policeman and woman are also part of this tale and the reactions of Vicki’s mum, Elizabeth are also given centre stage as the whole story comes to light.
A new author to me, and one I’m happy to follow. This audiobook was so beautifully read and the atmosphere and characters so beautifully drawn made this story unforgettable.
A murder investigation with heart

25 years later, Vicky's mum's life has moved forward but she is twice a widower and her life feels hollow and she still vaguely holds out hope on where Vicky went to. Realistically she knows that Vicky has fallen prey to misfortune but she needs closure. We are introduced, one by one to Vicky's friends and their lives since Vicky's disappearance and you wax and wane between thinking that anyone in the story could be involved and the ending doesn't disappoint.
Then a body is discovered close by to where Vicky went missing, so could it be Vicky and if so why wasn't she found at the time?
Our detectives on the case both have complicated lives and backgrounds, so investigating the discovery of this body not only brings challenges for Vicky's family and friends but poses challenges for our detectives. Their characters are ones you are drawn to and can empathise with and as the book concludes, you want to know more about where their travels and adventures unfold. This is perfect for enticing you into wanting to read the next book in the series. This next book is definitely on my TBR list.
The writing in this book was great and you are drawn into the story right from the start. I listened to the audio version of this book and it was brilliantly narrated.
