About this listen

**BRINGING DANGER CLOSE TO HOME . . . THE GRIPPING NEW THRILLER FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR NICCI FRENCH**

A good deed

Can turn deadly…

When Liam unexpectedly turns up in Jude’s life after ten years of no contact, asking her for a favour, she just can’t say no. He was her first love, and even though she is now a successful doctor and about to get married, he will always be someone special to her.

But after she does the favour, she is contacted by the police, informing her that Liam has been found dead, and suddenly she is caught up in a murder investigation.

And she realises this one decision could cost her everything—even her life…

I liked this story. It’s different to Nicki French’s other stories but I was absorbed and wanted to know what had happened and why.

I quite enjoyed the writing style and the plot, but I agree with others that the narration is over the top.
I feel like the narrator would be an accomplished stage actor, but just a bit too much on every comment and description for an audiobook.
4 stars for the story as it is engaging mystery with a likeable but useless yes-woman of a protagonist. The house, where much of the action is set, feels like a creepy extra character looming over the story.
I’m going to look out for more by Nicci French but with a different narrator!

Nicci French good, narrator not so good

Breathtaking story, this is the art of writing! And as always, talented Imogen Church my top UK favourite narrator smashed all characters to the perfection! Highly recommended on audible!

The art of writing and narrating!

I felt that this story was largely ruined by the narrator, who I think might have more success reading in this manner to a group of children of about six years old or under. The performance was often ridiculously over the top and tended to make the story somewhat implausible because of the way she portrayed the characters and described events in such an exaggerated manner. The performance was not like this all the time, but it was for a significantly large part of the time, and for me, the style of narration detracted too much from the plot.
With a different narrator, I think the book would be quite enjoyable

Poor performance, but good book

I cannot bear this narration, It is unnecessary and inappropriate for the narrator to put so much expression into every word of every sentence! It’s an effort getting through something I was really looking forward to
