Publisher's Summary

An expedition gone awry.

Suni Koudounas is enamoured with the wonders — and dangers — of the Far Wild. As a naturalist’s apprentice, she’s studied every book and expedition report about the miraculous wilderness. But when her mentor goes missing on expedition, Suni sets aside the Far Wild of ink and paper to venture after him into the primordial jungle.

A missing skyship.

As the empire’s most beloved adventurer — or most successful raconteur — Senesio Suleiman Nicolaou doesn’t want much. Wealth beyond measure, fame beyond reason and a small kingdom somewhere warm should be about enough. When news of the rescue mission reaches him, Senesio knows there’s no better opportunity to add to his living legend.

The most dangerous wilderness known to man.

With unexpected enemies above and monstrous predators in the jungles below, it’s up to Suni, Senesio and their companions to uncover the truth of what’s happening in the Far Wild. It’s a revelation that will shake the empire to its core and reshape the lives of all involved — assuming, of course, they don’t all get eaten first.

This thrilling start to Alex Knight’s new fantasy series is perfect for fans of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park and Nicholas Eames's Kings of the Wyld.

Absolutely love it, HIGHLY recommend

I cannot stop thinking about this book! The narration is excellent, and the voice with which the author writes is really distinct and adds a lot of flavor to each character and plot development. I’ll be telling people about this one for a while.

As a Jurassic Park fan, I've been waiting for this

Suni was a FANTASTIC character. I couldn't stop listening. Fingers crossed for book 2 soon!

Well performed but lacking interest. Returned for

The performers all did a good job. However they had a lack of material to work with. Especially Sunni whose dialogue was stilted and wooden. The story was just not there for me. It felt almost Enid Blyton in its simplicity and obviousness. Which is a real shame given the talent of the actors.

Laughs, thrills and a lot fun!

This book is a fast paced adventure set in a vivid fantasy world. I immediately fell in love with the 'gentleman adventurer' who reminds me strongly of Taryon Darington from critical role - in fact the setting feels like dungeons and dragons but without the magic. Definitely a lot of dangerous beasts that could be straight out of the Monster Manual! You quickly become swept up in the adventure which doesn't let up until the powerful finale. Highly recommend!

Lighthearted fun, but no Jurassic Park

It’s fun, but not mind blowing. Not sure if I’d bother with the sequel. The four main narrators do an ok job, but I found the characters a little hard going at times. Try it, you might like it. Not for a younger audience as the language is strong at times and some of the scenes are a little graphic.

A perfect adventure

A modern take on a traditional adventure story with well developed, and believable, characters. Written in the first person for each of the main protagonists which works well because of the multiple narrators.

This would’ve worked better with one narrator.

The story itself seemed alright but the multiple narrators just made the whole thing a confusing mess because half the time you didn’t know who was actually saying what. Peter Kenny was good but the other two just didn’t do it for me at all and bored me. Disappointed.

A fun listen

I found this to be a happy surprise. It is a very well performed production, and the story is an enjoyable adventure romp that doesn’t pretend to be anything more than it is. It was a fun listen and I would come back for more adventures with these characters.

Entertaining story. Excruciating narration by Peer

The story was entertaining, although I did get the feeling that it was written with an overly strong wish for it to be made into an adventure-comedy film.
Peter Kenny's performance was extraordinary as per usual (he is the reason I bought this audiobook). This was in stark contrast with Carlyss Peer's (voice og Suni) excruciating narration, which I found was far too dramatic all the time and making emphasis in bizarre places.
Further, it was difficult to keep track of the characters. Each chapter is told from the perspective of one of three characters point of view and is read by the corresponding narrator. However, the narrators made their own voices for all characters' dialogue in the chapter, not just their allocated character, and thus you end up with 3 versions of each character's voice. Very confusing.
Peter Kenny kept the skyship aloft.

Highly enjoyable

Enjoyed this a lot and didn't take long to finish, vivid descriptions, good characterisation and well performed by the narrators.

Mostly enjoyed it...

There is a lot to like about this story - and to a lesser degree the performance. The locations and characters are fun - the "other world" ness - nearly ours but not quite - is well drawn. I did find some things an irritation though. One of the main characters wobbles between tremulous and a bit pathetic and somewhat heroic. This is okay - but the narration for that character I found grating - too tremulous, too weedy. Other characters - one in particular - were great fun and well narrated throughout. Some of the local fauna were also unbelievably... persistent shall we say - in my mind. However it's Mr. Knight's world and who knows how things would behave there - and some of it is necessary for the story. I don't think I'm giving much away when I say I loved the airships..

Give it a chance

I almost returned this book, but decided to give it a chance. The characters/story took a while for me to "warm to". The link to Jurassic Park was very tenuous.
