Publisher's Summary

This college jock is a total player. He's used to getting who and what he wants. Until her....

Katrina

The hottest guy on campus won't stop asking me out. I know that sounds like a good problem to have, but this guy...this guy has no idea how complicated my life is trying to juggle being a single mom and college student.

Every Thursday, he shows up at the café where I work. His cheesy pickup lines and arrogance should have me completely annoyed. I'm not. I can't say yes, but Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

Joel

The hottest girl on campus won't go out with me. I know, I know, that sounds presumptuous, but this girl...this girl has gotten under my skin, and I can't seem to walk away.

Every Thursday, I show up at the café where she works. She's fed me every excuse in the book. I should give up and bang one of the many girls blowing up my phone. I'm not. Even when she says no, Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

loved it

Every gal needs to be firm on her word and Katrina keeps hers. Joel undeterred keeps coming at her until she relents. Bad boy feather ruffling or morphing into a respectable young man and the relationship of a single mum and the turmoil of dealing with the childs father, new guy knowing her kid was well done. All the while jiggling work, school and dealing with A jock

College Hot Guy and Single Mum

The Fadeaway is the second book in the Smart Jocks series, but can be read as a standalone. This college based romance features basketball player and popular/hot guy Joel and single mum Katrina as the 2 main characters.

Joel is THE popular guy on campus. Girls throw themselves at him, and he has basically been sleeping his way through college. That all changes when he notices Katrina at the coffee shop, but she continually turns him down and won't go out with him. Katrina is a single mum to an adorable 3 year old son, and regardless of her attraction to Joel she knows of his reputation with the ladies and has more important priorities like her son and college.

Joel is much deeper than his initial portrayal of the easy going hot guy just looking for hook-ups, and I was really invested in getting to the part of the story where he realises how deep his feelings run for his *kitty*. The Fadeaway was a fun book to listen to, and the narrators for both Joel and Katrina were really good.

Winners Want the Ball

Overall 4.5 stars

Story 4 stars

This series is such a fun twist on the NA sports romance. After loving The Assist, I couldn't wait to get to Joel's story next. This is book 2 in the series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone. I definitely recommend the previous book though, because it's a great read/listen and that is where our characters are introduced.

It's no secret that my least favorite type of romance hero is the manwhore. Thankfully, Joel ended up being much more than the cocky and arrogant big man on campus. There are still some less than pleasant reminders of his colorful past, but we also get to see a much sweeter and vulnerable side to Joel Moreno as well. The witty banter and push and pull between Katrina and Joel was delicious and I loved the slow burn build up between them. Both have pasts that have left scars and it was so wonderful seeing them each break those walls down. Christian was so cute and I really loved his interactions with Joel, but I did feel that his vocabulary seemed a bit advanced for a 3 year old. The drama at the end was thankfully resolved quickly and Joel made up for it in the end.

Teddy Hamilton was wonderful as always and even though I thought he might be too sweet to pull off Joel, he of course ended up being perfect. This was my first time listening to Summer Morton, but I really enjoyed her narration as determined and guarded Katrina. Both gave playful and heartfelt performances and really brought the characters to life. I'm really looking forward to Z's story next!

Sweet Sports Romance

I absolutely adored this. This is delivering everything you want in a NA sports romance. Swoon worthy basketball star with a hankering for coffee. A tough as nails heroine who is totally self sufficient. She doesn’t need the hunk she wants him and it’s refreshing.

If getting the story wasn’t enough Teddy Hamilton is knocking it out of the park as the H. Summer Morton is also wonderful.

If you like NA and sports romance this is an easy listen. You will have a great time with well developed characters. Totally worth a credit!

Joel Melted My Heart!

Talk about dedication. College basketball star Joel Moreno shows up at the campus cafe every Thursday for months on end, asking out barista Katrina (aka Kitty). And every week she shoots him down. Joel is patient and kind, when he could have his pick of any girl on campus, because there's something about Kitty that has him completely enamored.

He puts in a ton of effort when it comes to wooing Katrina, and when she eventually gives in, they both try to keep things casual. As a single mom, Katrina tries to keep her heart guarded, but the sweet side that Joel shows to her and her son Christian... well, it's no wonder she falls for him. And Joel has his heart on lockdown, still carrying around a ton of baggage as a result of his high school girlfriend's betrayal. The Fadeaway is Joel's signature move on the court -- might he need to change up his signature move in his love life before he loses the best thing that's ever happened to him?

As for the performances, Teddy Hamilton could read the phonebook and I'd listen. I absolutely love what he brings to every audiobook I've heard him narrate and he was a perfect Joel. Likewise, Summer Morton was fantastic at bringing Katrina to life.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and voluntarily left a review.

Another great listen

Book 2 in the Smart Jocks series. Each can be listened/read as a standalone and they feature different couples. Loved the story and the characters. Loved Joel and Katrina. Great chemistry between them. They found such great narrators in Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton to bring the characters to life.

College Sports Romance

This is my first time reading/listening to this author and I loved it! It’s a great new adult college sports and single parent romance.

Besides being a star basketball player, Joel is also player, is ya know what I mean. But he meets the one girl who says No. The interaction between Joel and Katrina had me laughing out loud!!!! I had my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that Joel has what it takes to be in Katrina’s life!

Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton did a fantastic narrating!

Opposites Attract Sports Romance

Not gonna lie I was a little nervous to read Joel’s story as he came off as a real a**hole in book 1 and I didn’t want to hate his story and it ruin the series for me.

Joel and Katrina were so absolutely perfect together. I loved the unraveling of each other’s stories and how they came to be who they are and why. Together they were the perfect recipe of opposites attract.

Love can Heal!

I asked to receive this free Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. This is the second book that I have listened to by this author and the second book in this series and I am hooked. This author writes such in depth stories and creates complex backgrounds that influence her characters actions until they meet the person that can make them find love. Joel and Katrina never expect to find love with each , but the chemical attraction is definitely there. It is so much fun to watch this slow burn attraction heat up. The author also has wonderful secondary characters. Although this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first book in this series, The Assist, so you meet all of these friends. The narrators did a fantastic job of portraying the emotions and personalities of the characters. I felt that I was part of the story and I did not want to stop listening to it. I love when the author and narrators immerse me into a story. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Couldn't stop listening

I have never read a book by this author before and I am wondering why it took me so long to. The Fadeaway is book 2 in the Smart Jock series and the narrators were great. Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton read the story so well and had me hooked. Once I started listening to this book it was hard to stop.

Joel is a playboy on the basketball team. He has no problem getting ladies, he just doesn’t do relationships. Katrina catches his eye at the campus coffee shop she works in. She doesn’t have time for a hot jock who has a different girl every night. Joel asks her out every time he sees her and she always has an excuse.

When Joel and Katrina finally give in to what they feel for one another sparks fly. These two have amazing chemistry and pull towards each other. I really enjoyed this book and cant wait to read the rest in the series.

The Fadeaway was a super sweet romance!

The Fadeaway was a super sweet romance that had me swooning like crazy!

I’ve never been a huge fan of the reformed player storyline, it can be overdone and unrealistic but The Fadeaway was something completely different that had me hooked from the first moment Teddy Hamilton as Joel Moreno uttered a full sentence in Spanish!

Joel Moreno isn’t your typical player, he’s broken hearted in more ways than one and still hasn’t found a way to repair his heart and move on from the future he thought he’d have.

Katrina aka Kitty isn’t broken hearted. You’d have to be open to love for that and Katrina is most definitely not. Her heart has already been stolen by her adorable 3-year-old son Christian, but she can still day dream every Thursday when Joel Moreno asks her out on a date.

The Fadeaway is a story of the healing power of love and companionship. It brings together two jaded people in a super sweet and swoony way that has these two characters bringing out the best in each other while also repairing their hearts and outlooks on love.

The Fadeaway was my introduction to Rebecca Jenshak’s writing and although it’s the second book in the series, it was the first one I listened too. The first book in the Smart Jocks series is The Assist which I can’t wait to listen to next! I loved Rebecca Jenshak’s swoony style of writing, it was a truly enjoyable listen. She brought these characters to life in a believable way and had me forgetting that Joel and Katrina don’t really exist. There’s some great secondary characters in Joel and Katrina’s life that you know have their own stories coming as well.

Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton were the perfect narrators to bring Joel and Katrina to life. Teddy captured the Mexican side of Joel perfectly and had me rewinding and relistening to every part where he uttered a couple of sentences in Spanish! The Fadeaway translated to audio book so well, it flowed perfectly and had me avoiding the pause button at all costs so I could devour it right up until the end.

The Fadeaway was a sweet and heartfelt listen that had my heart beating like crazy. There’s some super swoony bits, super sexy bits and some funny bits that keep you hooked from the first chapter. It’s a perfect listen for anyone who’s looking for something to listen too while wrapping there Christmas presents, its got that swoony hallmark feel to it and I highly recommend the audio for this one!

a refreshing new adult sports romance

The Fadeaway is the second book in Rebecca Jenshak’s ‘Smart Jocks’ series. I liked the first book, but this one… this one I loved!

Joel is the playboy of his basketball team. He’s rich, a player, and an all around great guy. And he’s got his eye set on the one girl who won’t give him the time of day. Katrina finds Joel attractive and would love to go out with him, but there is something holding her back… well, someone. She’s a single mom and full time college student and doesn’t have the time to date.

Joel is persistent if nothing else. He wears Katrina, or Kitty to him, down and finally gets her to agree to go out with him. I loved this couple together. I loved how Joel reacted to her having a son and how he interacted with him. I also loved how strong Katrina was, and how finding out Joel’s back story really gave us so much insight to why he is how he is.

These two have so much chemistry and their story had so much depth. It was much more than just a fun read (though it was a lot of fun) about a jock and a single mom. It had steam, humor, and most of all, heart. I listened to the audio book which was narrated by one of my favorites, Teddy Hamilton and also Summer Morton. Both did a fantastic job and it was an easy to listen to book.

This is such a refreshing new adult sports romance. As soon as I finished it, I jumped straight into book 3 because I couldn’t wait to read about Zeke and Gabby (Spoiler alert: I loved their book just as much as I loved this one) and I’m so excited to get to Nate’s book asap! I’m loving the series so much and recommend it to those who love NA/sports romance!

My Thoughts on The Fadeaway

Once again I am thoroughly impressed by Rebecca Jenshak and the amazing story she gave us with The Fadeaway. The leading man Joel was this fun loving guy in the first book of the series, and I was honestly looking more forward to Z's story then Joel's just because I didn't think he had much depth to him. But boy was I wrong. This story was not only so well written with great flow and progress that kept my attention, but the character building was perfection. My whole opinion on Joel changed. And he had a past that kind of justified his outlook on things. But he grew and developed and showed so much in this story I totally ended up loving him.

I loved Katrina too. I have a great respect for dedicated and loving single moms like her. And I liked the way the relationship with her son's father was written. It's not the direction a lot of author's take with this type of situation so it was a nice change of pace.

I just really enjoyed this story and this author's words. They were brought to life by two fantastic narrators. Teddy Hamilton is in my top 5 male narrators so his name alone could have drawn me in, but I also really liked Summer Morton. I'm not as familiar with her work, and her male voice isn't my favorite but it wasn't bad either. I loved her performance as Katrina and her little boy voice for the son was adorable.

Love this second book!!

Rebecca Jenshak did one terrific job of creating interesting characters and story lines that make you want to know what happens next!!

Katrina and Joel’s story was one I was hoping for after reading The Assist. Joel’s character, in that book, was the party boy who chased every female! Knowing his backstory makes it easier to understand, somewhat, why he is the way he is.

Katrinas life is not simple. She is a college student, and a single mother. She doesn’t have the freedom to do what other college girls do. She can’t bring someone into her life because her son is also part of it and wouldn’t understand. She is falling...

What happens when she reveals her feelings?? Will Joel run?? You’ll have to listen to find out! It’s a great story to listen to and Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton do a fantastic job with the narration!!!

Really enjoyed this story. Great narration.

I enjoyed the way that Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton brought these characters to life.

It's really nice to go back into a world I enjoyed in the first book of the series but see it from the point of view of another set of characters. This story is lovely, enjoyable, and to me very sweet. I loved watching the characters as they approached the situations around them and built their relationships. I feel the subject is handled sympathetically but not in a saccharine or clichéd way. I really enjoyed it.

a college single mom romance

In this book while I did enjoy the the characters and the overall story I had to mark it down one star because I felt like there was a few points in the story where maybe it was a bit drawn out and slow for me. As for the characters in the plot I found the story enjoyable kind of that sweet predictable college tough story romance. As for the narrators I feel like they did a great job and I do prefer the dual narrators but over all they both did a great job with each character and how they work together.

love finds away.

this is the 2nd book in this series. I fell in love with Joel from the start. He is a guy who knew what he wanted, Katrina. He was persistent in asking her out. Katrina has her reasons for saying no. He helps her with a play she is writing by taking to his family. Her secret comes out why she doesn't date.
Joel doesn't do long term due to his high school girl.
As he gets to know Katrina and her son, he cant help falling. But doesnt want to.

the Narrators were amazing. Listening to Teddy speak Spanish. wow. Summer is new to me. I loved her as well. She nailed the child voice.

Swoon. This story captured me from the first sentence. I listened to it in one sitting. I was highly entertained and strongly rooting for Joel. The writing, narration, characters, the moon cycles, one or all of these combined to just grab my attention. Great story, great narration.

This is book 2 in the series but still a stand alone if you wish. The 1st book was just as good though. I love sports themes but this author also gives you a great storyline too. The narrators are fantastic. Teddy is one of my all time favorites. Makes this book a knockout for sure. Loved it!
