Summary

A new, sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller, Vi Keeland.

He lives by a set of rules. She might be his one exception.

I just wanted a distraction, something to take the edge off before facing a wedding I was dreading. So on the flight back to New York, I signed up for a dating app. Harmless enough, right?

Wrong.

Turns out, it wasn’t just any app—it catered to people with very specific tastes. By the time I realized it, I was already on my date.

Tall, confident, and sinfully handsome, Jagger Langston seemed like the full package. The chemistry between us was instant—electric enough to burn the whole city down. Though things took a turn when we figured out I’d misunderstood who should join the app. We laughed it off, said goodbye, and went our separate ways.

Or so I thought.

Until I walked into my new internship Monday morning, ready to put the weekend behind me, and there he was—my boss.

Now I’m caught between the rules he lives by—and the temptation to make him break every single one of them.

I saw mixed reviews about this book … but I actually loved it! Narration was amazing of course and the story line was good. I couldn’t stop listening. Give it a try if you like office romance.

I found this story really compelling. Their love felt real. There was a crime aspect that I don’t usually like but it was minimal and added to the story in a positive way. A slightly dark romance in that they’re good people who are victims of others.

A little bit of a dark romance

I really enjoyed The Exception by Vi Keeland, especially as an audiobook in duet style with Sebastian York and Andi Arndt. These two are fantastic together when they narrate—their voices play off each other so well, making the story lively and engaging. Andi Arndt’s narration of the heroine was perfect—expressive, fun, and completely captivating.

That said, I personally felt that Sebastian York’s voice didn’t quite match how I imagined Jagger. He sounded much older than I pictured him, which pulled me out of the story at times. Despite that, the story itself is fun, flirty, and full of sizzling tension. Jagger’s rules and the unexpected romance make for a captivating, entertaining listen.

If you enjoy romantic comedies with strong chemistry and a touch of heat, this audiobook is worth it, just keep in mind that the Jagger in your imagination might sound a little younger than York’s portrayal.

Loved the Story, Voice Slightly Older Than Expecte

Vi Keeland never fails to disappoint. Somehow, she manages to have me hanging on to every single word without skipping a thing, something I can’t say for a lot of other books.

From start to finish, this one had my full attention.

The performers are two of my favourites and, as usual, they absolutely nailed their parts. Their delivery brought the characters to life in a way that felt effortless and completely immersive.

I genuinely loved the intelligent, sexy characters and their stories. The male was intelligent, powerful and sexy (just how I like them), and the female was beautiful, smart and strong. The love connection was perfect and fulfilling.

The book was heartwarming, emotional, and deeply satisfying. What continues to amaze me is how Vi Keeland has written so many books and still manages to give each one its own unique twist. Her work never feels recycled or repetitive. Each story stands firmly on its own while still delivering that unmistakable Vi Keeland magic.

This book had the perfect balance. Enough action to keep things moving, emotional depth that actually lands, and just the right amount of steaminess. Nothing overdone, nothing lacking.

I finished it the day it was released, and I’m already impatient for her next release, even though this one has only just come out. Another exceptional read, in every sense of the word.

Exceptional (pun intended)
