Publisher's Summary

The Effortless Sleep Method is the approach insomniacs all over the world have been waiting for. This hugely effective method offers a simple and permanent solution for long-term and new insomniacs alike.

The Effortless Sleep Method gives you something no other insomnia book can: an entirely different way of looking at insomnia. The step-by-step insomnia recovery sleep program contained in this book doesn't just treat insomnia, it totally undermines it. This is not another dry as dust reference book written by a doctor, but a lively, empowering book which connects the sufferer intimately to one who has gone through the same pain.

Sasha Stephens suffered a full fifteen years with crippling, terrifying insomnia before a chance event enabled her to see the problem from an entirely new perspective. What came next was astonishing; fifteen years of insomnia had disappeared in the space of a few weeks. Following extensive research, Sasha created the Effortless Sleep Method, a step-by-step sleep training program which has now helped countless insomniacs to get their lives back. Sasha maintains that with a little honesty and commitment, anyone can cure their insomnia, no matter how severe. In this book, she will leave you open-mouthed with her understanding and insight into sleep problems. In a chatty, engaging manner, she will hold your hand through every step of your recovery, anticipating your feelings, your fears and your doubts. Sasha understands insomnia acutely, like only one who has suffered the horror of this affliction can.

The ability to sleep soundly, naturally and unaided is the desire of every chronic insomniac. This method will guide you to rediscovering your innate ability to sleep without pills, potions or external sleep aids. When The Effortless Sleep Method is followed properly, the results can be incredible. Many people report sleeping better than they have ever done. Now, anyone can have perfect sleep.

The pot calls the kettle black a bit

Would you consider the audio edition of The Effortless Sleep Method to be better than the print version?

Print version? you think I'll read both?

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

?

What does Stevie Zimmerman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

these questions are irrelevant

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

not really

Any additional comments?

She has a good suggestion for insomnia, just stop worrying about it. but she does do what she says you shouldn't do A LOT, a bit hypocritical. i.e don't spend your hard earned money on remedies that don't work, 'go to my website and use this special code to buy my products' etc. 'Don't believe in any sleep remedies, my remedy will cure you'

Someone has finally "cracked" insomnia...

This is one of the best books on insomnia I have ever read. I realized that insomnia is really just fear. The fear of not sleeping is what creates insomnia. The author has worked a way around the mind-bending complexity of this disorder and she offers some practical and useful tips for getting better sleep. I can now say I am no longer afraid of not sleeping, and consequently I am sleeping much better.

Smart lady

She figured it out and put it all together. Her story is my story, but I I have suffered from insomnia for 40 years and this makes so much sense. I felt so alone and now I feel hopeful and so far good results,

Not for Postpartum Women

I've been struggling with sleep postpartum for the past 4 months off and on (I'm now 8 months PP). I've been looking into a myriad of solutions because my general inclination is to be as natural as possible. However, the narrative in this book is not helpful if you are postpartum (and there is any chance, as I've learned, that your sleep issues are due to PPA/PPD). She puts forth what seems to be a unilateral idea that depression/mood disorders can't play a role in this issue, and that it's entirely about sleep hygiene and managing your outlook. As someone struggling with anxiety, her rules, while she suggests they are looser than some other approaches, further set me on edge like one more thing I had to adhere perfectly to (not a good trigger for someone dealing with anxiety). And, the idea that you should not "complain" about your problem to others, even your family or partners, isolated me - which, isolation and postpartum anxiety and depression are already far too entrenched without adding this in. She speaks frequently about people being without a schedule when they begin to suffer from sleep issues, but fails to acknowledge there could be a connection to mood disorders, dismissing it as not having been the cause for her issue. In my recent awareness and understanding of PPA/PPD, both have a common symptom of sleep issues, and not acknowledging there can be other problems at play and suggesting there is only one solution to insomnia for everyone fails to recognize there could be a different underlying cause, and that her solution, while it may be great for some, actually made me feel much worse almost immediately, triggering my anxiety and isolation of the PPA/PPD as she talks numerous times about people struggling for decades with no apparent solution, etc. Thankfully, I've gone to my midwives and am getting the help I need to treat the real underlying issue. I just hope other women postpartum, who commonly experience PPA/PPD and sleep issues related to it, don't make the same mistake I did of seeking this book out as a solution.

Poor effort!

This is all basic common sense stuff. I was not impressed with the “Effortless Sleep Method.” Don’t bother!

Don't obsess about not sleeping, it makes it worse

If you've just read the title of my review then I've summed up the main premise of the book for you in nine words!

Nothing here that doesn't become obvious if you can't sleep for a while. I didn't hear much I hadn't heard at some point before, or worked out for myself. Quite good in a reassuring way, to know that there isn't any quick fix I wasn't aware of and that It's a good thing not to worry about not sleeping if you can't, because people do try and make you feel you ought to be trying to do something about it...So it is reassuring that she's put into words some of what I was thinking anyway. Other things she said were only relevant to people who only have a problem sleeping, like only spending time in bed if you're sleeping; I don't agree with that, as, so long as you are resting, relaxing your body and getting the rest you require even if you aren't actually asleep; as long as you don't worry about it and think it doesn't matter(perhaps occupy your mind with a gentle audio book as I do), then it's okay and you're at rest even when you're not sleeping.

So some of what she said sounded quite amusing in some ways, it even sounded slightly crazy, as obviously if you obsess about not sleeping it's never going to help. Is she for real that it took her so long to work out that if you worry about not sleeping it makes it worse and perpetuates the cycle? I guess so or she wouldn't have written so much!

Narrator sounds good.

patronising and abrupt but helpful

wonderful! If you can tolerate and be understanding when the author is patronising and using manipulation and dominance towards the reader then this book is very helpful and effective. she just isn't an expert in communication or decency. Believe in yourself and commit to reading it all then judging it

A mixed bag

A useful and interesting approach, but quite badly written, with some extremely dubious leaps of logic at times (all justified with the "if you question any of this, you're looking to fail" get out clause that puts me in mind of a wannabe cult leader). Seems far too keen to extrapolate universal truths from personal experience and seems to ignore some medical facts. That said, there is a useful perspective on insomnia here, to counterbalance the rush for miracle cures and supplementation that's available these days.

This works!

A fortnight on from finishing this book, I'm sleeping like a baby. My body complained A LOT for the first week and I felt worse than ever. I nearly gave up! SO pleased I didn't. SO much better in myself. TRY IT, and give it time to work!

Holistic and Practical.For Psychological Insomnias

1. A great book for psychological insomnia but not for secondary insomnia.
2. Worth reading because it gives unconventional (mindset resetting and boosting), holistic advices that are very reassuring to the reader/sufferer. This helps them to address the root of their issue. Rather than repeating the old remedies of computers and phones off before bed, dark room and cool temperature etc. that most of us already know, she paints a different attitude and vibe for our understanding of insomnia.

I'm glad I stumbled on this book!

Incredibly helpful

I've always struggled a lot with insomnia ever since childhood. Despite trying many many different methods not much really helped. I found some nuggets of gold in this book that have helped me achieve a healthier sleep pattern. My sleep isn't perfect but since reading this book I certainly have more tools available to me to address the problem.
