Cliff Richard
About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Cliff Richard tells his story, in his own words, in his highly anticipated new autobiography.
Achieving a hit in every decade since the 1950s, Cliff Richard stands alone in pop history. Coming of age in 1950s London, he began his music career at Soho's legendary 2i's Cafe, and now he's approaching his 80th birthday with record sales of over 250 million and counting.
Cliff Richard was a pioneer, forging the way for British rock 'n' roll with his unique sound. The original British teen idol, his incredible story takes us into the studio of TV's first pop show Oh Boy!, through 40 years of Top of the Pops and playing live up and down the country and across the world, with a constant backdrop of screaming fans.
Cliff looks back on his humble upbringing and how he went on to fulfil his wildest dreams by becoming a pop star and even a film star. He talks about finding Christianity, reflects on the ups and downs of life in the public eye and reveals how the false allegations against him changed his life forever.
He's seen era-defining pop stars come and go and he's still making new music, with a new project to be released this year. As a teenage Elvis fan in Cheshunt, this may have seem a distant dream. Here's his story of how he made it all happen.

I have recently lost my husband and whilst Coronavirus & lockdown in Perth WA hasn’t been as bad as the rest of the world, it was nice to have Cliff’s story to think about.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who like me has been a fan of Cliff Richard all my life!

I read Which One's Cliff over thirty years ago, which I believe was his first autobiography.
This book gives us a bit of a further inside about his music and personal life, including his faith. It should be mandatory reading for journalists before interviewing him with the same old boring questions and accusations, because there is a wealth of untapped gems.
One example he touched on briefly was when the great Neil Diamond wanted to meet Cliff a few years ago to thank him for recording four of his songs in the sixties, at a time when Neil was a struggling muso himself. Apparently it was royalties from Cliff's recordings of those four songs, that made all the difference to Neil.
He doesn't say as much, but personally I believed it was the payolla scams, common in the US music scene that really stimied his early stateside success, that and being let down by his record companies.
He discusses the false allegations about molestation and the Elm Street house, that sadly dragged him through the mud, they have taken their toll physically, not only on himself, but also in the loss of close family members, he discusses it and handles it brilliantly in this book, without guile or malice.
Interesting too are his brief anecdotes with songwriters & other performers, including Pricilla Presley.
A must listen / read book for any one who enjoys his music and reading autobiographies.
