Something dark and evil has awakened....

Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City - and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It's 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult.

Evie worries her uncle will discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer.

As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho is hiding a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened....

Narrator is fabulous!

Such amazing narration. The story fully makes you feel like you’re in the 1920’s. I wish the villain had felt scarier somehow but overall a great read!

BEAUTIFUL NARRATOR & INTRIGUING STORY

The voices were so. well. done. and the story was excellent. I really like a long audio book that really gets you sucked into the story and characters because I like to listen to them on the way to work, and this was perfect for that!!!

Fantastic narration

I didn't love the plot but I adored the setting and characters of this book. The narration though is absolutely amazing and made the whole book a pleasure to listen to.

Chills and thrills

Part ghost story, part murder mystery, with the feel of an epic saga just starting to unfold.

Great performance, I was never drawn out of the story by the narrator's voice, which for me is the sign of a great audio book.

Hands down to the Narrator... you're amazing!!!

The different accents and the change of voices made this great story so vivid that I almost forgot I was listening to it and not 'watching' it!

Couldn't finish it

I tried, I really did. One word: "boring".

I found the beginning really interesting but then it changed so much it felt as though I was listening to a completely different book. The main character is a stuck up nasty piece of work and I found the story lacking. Listening at night put me right to sleep.

The narration is superb which is why I felt a little guilty at leaving part way through. But for me, that was the only good thing about this audiobook. It felt like a chore to continue to listen.
