About this listen

Devlin Markham, the notorious "Devil Duke" of Huntington, needs a woman. And not just any woman. If he can't woo one of the most eccentric bluestockings of the Ton within the month, he can kiss his hard-earned fortune good-bye. But he's always thought love a wasted emotion and marriage an inconvenience at best. And oddly enough, Lady Sophie Wolcott seems unmoved by his charm....

When Sophie learns her beloved orphanage is in imminent danger, she will do anything to save it. Even marry a ruthless rake who takes what he wants in business and pleasure - a man who's everything she's always feared most - but whom she reluctantly begins yearning for.

Then Sophie becomes the target of a killer lurking from the dark shadows of Devlin's past. And they find not only their lives in jeopardy but their very hearts.

Contains mature themes.

I really enjoyed the story, and the narration was well done, which makes me enjoy & appreciate the story more.

Narration great! Story has a surprise

The heroine made a number of foolish decisions, and I sometimes considered abandoning the book. All the same, I didn’t regret continuing to the end, and I’ll definitely read the next book in the series. Justine Eyre is a very good narrator . I recognise the difficulty inherent in assuming a male voice, but would also comment that the men can end up sounding a little lacking in nuance and charm (or menace)!

Good story, but there are some torture scenes that were a bit much for me.

How unexpected this story was- I loved it! I purchased the book expecting a romance novel, but ended up with so much more. I have to agree with other reviewers in that it was a little dark at times, but the excitement was worth the moments of held breath. 5/5

Easy listening, great story, nicely narrated. Interesting storyline that’s a little different from the others. Highly recommended.

Great story

This was hard to turn off. the narrator was fabulous. I found myself greatly invested with this couple. the way they both grated on each other was amusing. Sophie's brothers book is next I think. I never guessed the villain and I'm normally good with that. the who done it and the romance was enough to keep this consistently interesting. I highly recommend this

Great Mystery, loved the banter

The story could have been more complex.
However, I totally enjoyed it. It make me read the following books in the series

I loved the fierceness of the Female Lead

There were enough highs and lows in this story to keep me listening. I don’t think I would have been as game as the heroine poking her nose into places to satisfy her enquiring mind but all turns out in the end. At heart the narrative is a family tree and in the beginning a living tree acts as a prop to start the story rolling. I would listen to another tale written by this author.

A Good Storyline

I liked the author’s writing which was complimented by excellent narration. The suspenseful plot developed nicely to keep the audience engaged and wondering of the evil mastermind’s identity. Yes, there was romance with some intimate moments but that was a part of, but not the sole focus of, this book. As such I found this audiobook enjoyable and recommend.

Engaging story
